So... Im reaching that stage in my life now where i wanna do something totally different, and go somewhere and just let loose on something.

I hate people, and think that most humans are complete morons, so I am thinking of going to the Arctic circle in Canada and becoming and Ice Road Trucker.

Has anyone got any experience of this?

Would it be best to get my HGV licence over here first, or should I just go and get a licence over there?

Would Canada even let a UK person into their gaff?

Any constructive answers would be welcomed.

I think it's pretty hard to get a visa to Canada. Two of my aunts moved their years back when it wasn't too bad.

But anyway, you sound like a social supremacist - have you tried government :)

I would have thought it'd be better to get your HGV licence over there :p From watching the programme I'm under the impression you need to have lots of experience before they'll let you do the ice roads.

Slightly off topic but Ice Road Truckers is the best show currently on telly!

But to offer some helpful advise on some of the entry requirments for getting work on the Ice Roads are: swearing a lot, laughing loudly at your own jokes, growing a beer gut & chain smoking .

If you hate People then Dont Become a trucker where power tripping Bosses and **** hole engineers tell you what to do and blame you for **** ups all day long.
It makes you hate them more.

To be fair to the OP most of the general public to seem to be a bit thick. I have to deal with hundreds of people a day at work and just as many through hobbies etc and its got to the point where it actually seems like a treat and a pleasant suprise to talk to someone with manners and their own opinion on anything. Whether its driving around, walking in a shop or just on the phone so many people are just self obsessed morons who rely on other to tell them what to do and how to live and are completely ignorant of anyone else.

The othter thing is I like extremes.

I want to see the beauty of the arctic landscape.. the wildlife, and i LOVE driving... Ive even driven solidly for 36 hrs before... I am like a machine. This makes me think I could handle a couple of seasons on the Ice Road.

Correct me if I am wrong, but did they not get Hugh to train up a complete rookie also??

Ive always wanted to go to Tuktoyatuk, and couldnt believe it when I stumbled on a show that actually was based around that area.

Cool as moo.

Are you a road train guy?

I was thinking of that, but its not extreme enough!

The Ice Roads are hardcore, and better paid are they not?

Still, its not all about the monies, its about the experience, and doing something a little crazy.

How about doing something completely nuts and original then. go out into the wilderness and buy a huge patch of land, build a solar powered house and generator powered lumber mill and build a mahoosive robot? oh wait...

In all honesty id see if theres anything similar or other professions over here that might peak your interest first, the weather sort of fills in some of the blanks already.
