IcyBox IB-361-BL and SATA interface not working

How much of a performance hit is there if you disable write caching? To be honest I dont really need there to be great performance from the drive its mostly videos that I will be reading not writing.

On mine computer i only get the option for the USB IcyBox not the internal SATA drive. Havnt looked at the options for when its connected over sata yet. Its set as 'Optimise for quick removal' now so that means I can just unplug it anytime I want. Is that right?
Does it also mean that data integrity should be better as the wont be any half written data if the is a power cut or aanything?

Lots! I tried it the other night just out of curiosity, write speeds went from 45Mb/s to 7-10Mb/s.

I believe so however I still do the Stop Hardware thing just to be on the safe side but I've never had a problem unplugging a device which wouldn't stop.

You'll potentially have problems if the drive is reading or writing when the power is cut but that's the same for internal disks too. As long as there isn't a transfer window on the screen you should be OK.
