Ideal size TV for console gaming

All these people with tiny little screens need to experience a large plasma or a projector.

Much more relaxing to sit back on the sofa in the sweet spot of the (surround sound if you have it). Sitting right next to a tiny tv was what we did in the age of Ps1 and earlier, get with the times!

I can only relax playing singleplayer games, but when it comes to MW2 online and the like, i need to be as close as possible (without it being sore on the eyes!). A smaller screen helps me perform cause i can sit close and still see everything without moving my head around. If i play on my 42" plasma and sit close, i need to move my head to look around the screen as well as move the character on the screen!

If you're a serious gamer, I would personally recommend a 22" - 24" screen size.

However if you're like most other people, then get the biggest size possible coupled with a nice sound system, then you can't go wrong.

Why would you say that if you don't mind me asking? Are you assuming that all serious gamers play from a desk? Just curious :)

Well I think he means that if your a serious on-line gaming enthusiast it does feel better sitting up close to a 24" panel, you feel more in control, you can see everything that happening on screen easier, I think the posture helps you be more assertive and alert also, rather than chilling back on your sofa, your in a different frame of mind.

I love console gaming on my larger TV and on my Projector (with 5/1) from time to time but oddly neither engross me on the same level as sitting right up against my 24" Dell panel with my headphones on and the lights off as I sit there leaning forward looking attentively into that 'other' world.

No I agree completely about posture and proximity to the screen, makes a big difference. I guess it depends on the game really, for first person shooters up close and personal is where it's at but I'm curious as to what serious racers prefer???

I'm about 2 metres away from my 40" bravia, but still find my self leaning in on MW2 when the action gets tense!

Would love to get a large plasma , but I think 32" is the largest I could stretch to for a bedroom :(

Small cheap plasma's are 37" (although not 1080p :() , so I may be able to fit one in at a squeeze :p

Because how on earth could you possibly play 6ft or whatever away and expect to have the best reactions when you see something on the screen?
I would prefer being up and close. Don't get my wrong, sitting back for something like a driving Sim or a fighting Sim is fine, but for the FPS genre you need to be attached.

Also, there was a study on this particular subject whereby most of the pro gamers that play Halo 3, used a 22" screen of some kind (A Viewsonic one won iirc)

Now you'll probably say "Lol Halo 3" but these people are amongst the highest paid people for playing games online, so I think their opinion is quite valid in this context :p

Anyways, that's just something you should consider, most people have more than 1 screen for these purposes anyway.

While true , I doubt it makes that much difference. On a larger screen , won't you be able to see smaller differences more easily ? Like if someone pops their head around a corner reeeaaally far away from you :p

If your going to be watching a lot of full 1080p HD video content then I'd say the bigger the better. As ones likely to be chilling on a sofa way back from the screen.

42"

im usually about 7ft from tv lying down on leather sofa. thats how i play fifa anywayz.

I only get up and sit next to the screen if

a) the controller runs out of charge yet again! or magically decides to turn itself off grr :( b) im hyper and super psyched up for the game
