Ideas for a Job.

Now you really arent looking hard enough. There are plenty of jobs for unqualified people.

Try tesco, they pay a little bit more than most places.
The toyota plant near me pays 22k starter wage (2weeks days 2weeks nights on a rota) and you dont need qualifications for that just a good interview (obv you would need to be 18 though).
How about a job that gets paid more cos its hard/crappy IE binman, window cleaner.

Do an apprentiship? (sp?)
Do alevels?

Theres literally 1000s of options available:) Just dont work at maccy d's....

I beg to differ, I've looked as hard as I can (hence asking for other ideas; binman, window cleaner etc being good ones).

I've applied for 6 apprentiships :( Heard nothing back.

Can't afford to go back to collage, and don't fancy it either.

Someone asked for your interests, what are they? The true trick with your job/career is to do something you love doing, then it doesn't feel like work.

If you list your interests perhaps we could make some suggestions for you.

Personally I run my own websites for a living, and I absolutely love it, so that's the key, find something you love doing and you are sorted. I appreciate you are finding it hard to find something, but I'm just saying this is how I would approach the issue.

Good luck.

Why can't you afford it, you said you were 17 (same as me) which makes college free.

Seriously dude you have every excuse on this planet lined up mind dont you!

Well my interest is IT. But I accept I'm not going to get a job in it. I mean if I did an IT relevant job, but say something like (this just an example :p) warehouse picking and packing for ocuk that would be good. But in Reading (where im stuck without money to move away) There dosent seem to be anything like that around here.

Currently im using

Reed
Job Centre
Local Papers
Gumtree
Reading Council Site
3x Agencies

And approching businesses directly to look for a job and have found nothing. Any other ideas of places to look?

How good are you at IT? How good at things like setting up Windows networks and fault finding broadband connections?

How good at hardware and fixing computers?

No, I've just been here for a month trust me I've thought about everything.

Collage is free yes.

But in my house, We cannot go on with only one income. My mum cannot support me through collage. She just cannot afford too.

I need to support myself, and I need to do it very soon. Hence why this is frustraighting me.

I'm not being pickey, or lazy. I'm just stuck. Hence I came here for some out of the box thinking becuase im stumpted (like i said theres been one or two such ideas already).

Well, I would say I'm pretty good. Windows networks (domains, AD etc) im comfortable with. Still learning things (exchange etc). Troubleshooting im okay with. I know windows like the back of my hand so theres little which totaly stumps me. :)

Unfortuently I get the feeling having all this "general knowladge" isn't enough without some bit of paper to prove it.

I mate of mine did one of these things where you go and do CompTIA, A+ or whatever its called and all that. He flew through it with flying colours and he's just as good as me. So as/when I have a job I will deffinatly do something like that for myself.

I don't want to turn this into a discussion about collage and stuff. But EMA is not enough.

EMA dosent even cover transport. Let alone rent which is what this house needs!

but thats pretty meaningless without a qualification.

What a load of horse crap.

Seriously dude, just because you don't have qualifications doesn't mean you can't get anywhere in the IT world.

You'll find you'll have to go through the "nitty gritty" for a couple of years to gain experience then go for a job which can start you on the ladder :)

Your only 17, I was in the exact same position as you, trust me - a lot can happen in a short space of time. I would recommend checking out local independent PC repair places and ask about doing some work experience, and go from there :)

OK good. So, in my opinion, there is a market out there for providing home users with computer set up help. It's fiddly/annoying work, but the demand is out there if you're prepared to do it. I get asked by people I know to help them with their computer issues. I have stopped telling people I am a web developer / good with computers, because I have more profitable things to do with my time, but if you're prepared to do it, then set yourself up as a home computer consultant. You will need:

- A website (you can host a website for £15 a year so not a major cost)
- A mobile phone
- Some business cards in local shop windows
- Maybe a little ad in the local paper

Offer your services as a computer "helper", sorting people's home networks / broadband out. If you're generous do it on a no fix / no fee basis. If you're good, people will pay £30/hour, not bad for a first job.

Beats any of the suggestions so far I reckon. If you're good you will get referrals. What do you reckon?

Good luck.

You seriously can't be so poor you can't afford to go to college, especially with the help of £31 a week and EMA bonuses.

If you really are that poor then go in an armed force.

There are plenty of reasonable ideas here but you just keep shooting them down with your excuses.

Also, do some ebay trading as well for a little extra income, you'll be amazed what people will buy. Start small at local bric a brac stalls to find your stock and sell it on for a profit.

Good luck.

Also, domain name training. Identify unregistered useful domain names, register them for £6, sell them on for £50+ (£1000s if you find good ones).

Find out all about it at:

http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/

You really need to research the market before you start buying, but there is money to be made.

Good luck.

Sounds like a good idea. :) Gonna give it 2 weeks just to see what comes of other applications I've made recently. But watch this space.

Lol, some more good suggestions :) aha thank you.

exactly

there was people at my college who lived with jobless single parents and could still come into college.

part time job and college is what id do in your situation.

even in the post above the "ill give it 2 weeks" thing makes it sound like your not trying as hard as you could be...
