I'm moving down there in about 4 weeks to work in Piccadilly, but I have no idea on where to start looking to live. I will literally be working just off piccadilly circus, and so will need to be close to the piccadilly line, or within one change of it and live fairly close to it as I will be walking to *** tube station.

Where would people reccommend looking? North east london etc....?

Had a quick look at the maps and the best lines to live next to seem to be either piccadilly or central line, so what areas on those lines are nice?

Thanks for any help, I have no idea where to start looking!

**edited to include some more info from below**

Looking to spend arounds a total of £700 p/m for a 2 bed flat to share with one other person, could push to £800 p/m BUT it would have to be very nice and pretty close to allow for lower travelling costs.

I live about 2 minutes away from Barons Court tube station. I find it's a lovely area, within walking distance of Hammersmith but far enough away so as not to be bothered by some of the trouble you get around there on Friday/Saturday nights. It can be kind of pricey depending on what you're looking for though, but I'd definitely recommend it.
And yes, as a general rule the West/South is going to be pricier than the North/East but personally I think it's worth it.

Would I be right in thinking that the north is going to more affordable than the south?

Negative.

South of the River gets you much more value for money.... less tube links, you see.

Kennington (Kennington Road)/North Lambeth is actually a fairly decent place to live.

IT all depends on how much you are willing to spend..and what you want..

I really dislike hammersmith, id prefer to live in barnes if possible there!
personally i want to live in kensington :)

That's a bit like saying I really dislike Fords, I'd prefer to drive Jaguars if possible! personally I want to drive Aston Martins. You do the math.

On the central line (east bit) I wouldn't want to live closer in than South Woodford. Bethnal Green, Mile End, Stratford, Leyton and Leytonstone are all inner-city dumps (can't think of a better way to put it, sorry). I'm a Leyton Orient fan so I know that area reasonably well, I really wouldn't want to live around there if I could avoid it. South Woodford to Epping is a really nice area to live but bits of it can get quite expensive and from Epping it's a long commute. At the other end the look at Ealing.

On the picadilly line Hammersmith to Glouster Road I think are all quite reasonable areas. Acotn is less good but would be good for a flat purchase as it's a bit cheaper and is an 'up and coming' area and then getting into Ealng is more expensive again.

If you're looking at working near Picadilly Circus have a look around Clapham in the south or as others have mentioned Finchley in the north.

well well well, its a small world!

Barons Court tube station is one of my most used - I use it to play tennis at Queens and go to The Reynolds bar at the hospital. Quite a few of my friends live on north end and talgarth road. Personally I live on cromwell road, bit pricey but a very nice area indeed! (Imperial student)

A very general rule :p

To the OP; without knowing your budget, it's very difficult to recommend potential locations. The price fluctuates massively depending on what postcode you are looking at.
Also, the closer you are to a Tube station, the pricier it is - irrespective of where it is.

Give this a go.

Budget aside, I'd rather live north or west of centre. I live in the SE whilst it's a pretty decent area, when you get closer to central london it doesn't stay that nice. Far east london is not brilliant, but once again as you get closer it starts to get nice. Ar you sure you want to live so close to the centre? From Dulwich it would take me no more than 1hr to get to Picadilly Circus.

Cheers for all the suggestions so far. Looking to spend £700 p/m for a 2 bed flat to share with one other person, could push to £800 p/m BUT it would have to be very nice and pretty close to allow for lower travelling costs.
