Ideas on where to live in London

Brum, i live in North-Finchley, it about 20 minutes walk away from Finchley Central, but significantly cheaper.

i live in tally-ho (anyone who laughs is a communist :P) and have (generally) the best weather in finchley.

in tally-ho, there's a new stylish block of apartments/flats (not sure which)
right on the high road, literally above an Arts centre (in case you're "cultured")

might be cool? want photos?

Do you live in the new Tally-ho devolpement? they look very swish. I am just down the road in Southgate

no, i live 3 mins walk away (one street away)
they really do look nice, and if you get a top-floor-place, there's a sunbathing area (if thats your thing)

Yeh that'd be cool!

I've jut been looking through all the estate agents sites and there seems to be more available in clapham for what we're looking to spend, should prob go down and scour the estate agents in person, but it's just narrowing the areas down to go and visit so we're not aimlessly walking around for ever!

from what i've heard (i've friends who live there) Clapham is a 'orrid place to live.
plus, the name, "clapham" just sounds dodgy.

i've never really been there for a substantial amount of time, so can't say on a personal level.

OTOH, the tally-ho high street is absolutely excellent.

there are
  • starbucks + coffee rupublic
  • Argos
  • "electric avenue..." electrical store
  • O2 phone dealer
  • Natwest
  • Halifax
  • HSBC
  • 2 Hairdressers
  • a Video-rental shop
  • 2 newsagents
  • Woolworths
  • Clarks
  • and more...

well well well, its a small world!

Barons Court tube station is one of my most used - I use it to play tennis at Queens and go to The Reynolds bar at the hospital. Quite a few of my friends live on north end and talgarth road. Personally I live on cromwell road, bit pricey but a very nice area indeed! (Imperial student)

Even smaller world, hopefully I'll be doing Maths at Imperial come the new academic year.

Back on topic, having done a very similar flat search to yours in terms of being on the Piccadilly line anywhere in West London back in September, I fear you're going to struggle to find anything in that area given your budget. Sadly my knowledge of the areas/prices outside West London is rather limited so I can offer little further reliable advice! Hope you find something suitable and enjoy your stay in London, best city in the world if you ask me.

did math there :P graduated last year; might come back this autumn for a masters though

I just moved out of London into the North West corner of Kent. Never been happier to be honest I was sick of all the crap that goes with London life, the rudeness from everyone, the vandalism, traffic, grafitti. We've got a massive flat with a garage for £725 per month.

Trains go into Victoria every 15 minutes and that journey takes 16 minutes and every half hour to London Bridge/Charing Cross which takes just over half an hour. I'd never move back into London, born and bred there but hate the place now.

I agree, London's a bit too harsh for my family hence I moved to Surrey, only a 25 minute train journey to Waterloo if I don't fancy driving to London.
