Idiot Postman... What should i do?

I am thinking he should cover the cost of the parcel out of his own pocket....

too ways to handle this

Way 1) the Nice way.

Report the parcel missing to the company you bought it from. They will find that if it was sent anything other than Recorded / Special Delivery they just get told to submit a claim. Max they can claim is like 6 x 1st class stamps or something but thats the mail order companys risk when posting via a method that isnt sufficiently insured. Generally despite the thousands of royal mail parcels that get lost per year, it still works out cheaper to send 90 % of parcels royal mail 1st class, then send them all recorded ...

Way 2) the harsh way

Report it directly to the post office and attempt to get them to do something about it. They will most likely sack the postman in question and refund you if you submit a receipt from the mailorder company etc..

Equally they could turn round and also tell you that the most its insured for is 6 x 1st class stamps and to contact the retailer for more than this.

So you end up doing way 1 anyway. Its just way 2 punishes the postman as well as getting your money back.

I'd go way 1.

I don't know why you are all saying the postman or Asos have to pay for a replacement. The item was delivered, Royal Mail as an employer is vicariously liable for their employees so it's RM who has to pay for the dress. Not Asos, not the postman.

yes but the maximum liability for normal 1st class is only something like 6 x 1st class stamps or something stupid.

That's in the event of an accident or an unpredictable event. The postman already admitted fault and failed to comply with company guidelines (writting a card). RM is responsible for it's employees actions when exercising their duties.

Technically they haven't signed for the delivery so Royal Mail are liable. Asos will have to send out another dress and then claim from Royal Mail.

I am not happy with this, I want to contact Royal Mail and inform them of this, from my conversation with her a short time ago it sounded like he laid it on real thick about his job . Am I being too rash?

Would make him look bad I'm sure but I doubt he'd lose his job - he just doesn't want her to report him. If he was that worried that he'd lose his job why didn't he offer to pay for a new dress?

Whether he'd lose his job or not, this needs to be reported.

The guy put your mail in a bin. And wrote a pussy little note on the back of one of your other pieces of mail. Not only has he failed to follow procedure, he's pretty much made your other half change her attire for her graduation, and on top of that he defaced one of your other pieces of mail? Report the guy.

Nobody will be getting the sack for something like this. Admittedly the guy didn't follow procedure but calling for someone to get sacked is completely OTT and typical of some of the users on this forum.

I would bet you dont offer to resign everytime you make a mistake in work.

Same thing happened to my mate. He ordered software and was then taken in to hospital due to his back. Postie left software in one of the bins and put note through door. Mates neighbour left his bin out for him with software in it and my mate only found out when his mum called round to check his post.

As far as I know he got reimbursed in the end but don't know what route he took to get it sorted. Can find out if you need to.

So this dress cost over £100 and she's just let him off? I'd be livid!

First, unless he coughed up, I would report him to Royal mail and ask what could be done in compensation.

Then if I get no satisfaction there, I'd ring the place I ordered the dress from asking if they had any insurance on the delivery, if so could it be claimed on for non-delivery.

That's a lot of money to just be 'lost in post', at whatever point along the chain it happened.
