IE7 Final now out

Just upgraded to IE7 myself, the microsoft update site didnt have it, but the IE Homepage did, correctly identified my XP64 OS, and offered the appropriate 64bit download. As with IE6 is also sends a 32bit version for compatiblity with certain multimedia plugins.

Only quirk I found was it was loading the 32bit version by default, but I just switched the icons around on my startbar to sort that one out.

How is it that 'Clear Type' is actually worse?

From your screenshot on my computer, I find the Clear Type version in IE easier to read. It's mostly to do with the monitor you're using - on a CRT, it will almost always look better without it, for instance.

Indeed, very true.

Hey, I don't strive for perfection but I do value sensitive data. I ran their test and was surprised at the info they obtained - also looks like quite an old bug...

Oh, and I am on a 14" 1024x768 LCD (Thinkpad T41).

I just don't think it's fair for FF to be thought as being rock solid on the security front. It's not, but IE has had a lot of history in the media about it and thats what people remember.

Anyone found the history list yet? Its always useful to look at the list to see what websites children have been going on. But I cannot find it.

I don't think FF is - I find it quite buggy sometimes - occasional memory leak, sometimes flash can really crank up CPU usage whereas the same page in IE is fine and runs smoothly. Obviously, that's not security front but general bugs but I know FF has holes.

Obviously IE7 will have it's huuge flaws initially, as will all MS stuff so that companies pay them more for fixes/corporate support. IE will get more bad press thanks to it being the most widely used browser in the world (I should think) but MS ought to spend more time fixing flaws from the ground up to release something which runs as well as FF. They have the resources...

History = Ctrl+Shift+H. Or Tools > Toolbars > History.

Can you run IE6 and IE7 in parallel? I'm a web developer type, so need both for testing if possible.

Matt
With microsoft goin to push IE7 on people with the automatic update, theres shouldn't be much reason to need to test in IE6 'cos anyone with windows connected to the net will get it surely

Depends on how quick web sites are to update with any changes in IE7, especially banking sites if they were "IE Only"? That's basically what's holding me back from upgrading at the moment.

Are you referring to the recent hoax?

Nope; he's talking about these smart ****.

Why do people think that FF is so much more secure than any other browser beggars belief. Microsoft has a larger market share.. thus it's going to get targeted more for vulnerabilities.. Firefox would be the exact same in IE's position.

I just installed ie7 and it freezes at the welcome page. I cant choose a search engine or any other options on that page. All other sites seem fine though.

Is there a silent MSI for AD distribution anywhere?

Burnsy

/passive - Run the installation without any input from the user.
/quiet - Identical to /passive, but do not show any user interface.
/update-no - Do not look for Internet Explorer updates.
/no-default - Do not make Internet Explorer the default browser.
/nobackup - Do not backup the files that would later be required to uninstall Internet Explorer.
/norestart - Do not restart when install is complete.
/forcerestart - Restart after installation.
/log:<path> - Create a log file at <path>.

Hope this helps....
