IEMs (In-Ear Monitors)

Yes I agree also. I am buying because I am very happy with his excellent Truthear Crinacle Reds which I love and this is a limited edition. I already have too many Iems

It’s a hobby and an addiction. You can great sounding ones for very little.

One thing I find strange is he withheld the drivers config. I know I know, he is trying to backhand educate people that there is more to a sound than the type of drivers used, but I think as a consumer, I should know what I am paying for. I know he has shown a graph of the frequency response, but like when I am buying a car, it would be nice to know the engine displacement, number of pistons, whether it is petrol or diesel or electric on top of the graph from the dyno.

I agree @Raymond Lin . I am taking a punt.

Looking at it positively he doesn't want competitors knowing what's inside because they'll just copy it (like KZ / KBear / CCA often do) using cheaper components etc.

Looking at it negatively perhaps it's two cheap drivers tuned well in a glossy metal shell but not much else :cry: (though very unlikely given the treble profile).

I've been nearing replacing my sony wx1000M2s. I know these are over ears, but have been reading about IEM quality and think I might like to give some a go. Where might someone new to the IEM world, with an Iphone 15 Pro as my main source of portable music, make a start at dabbling? I believe I'd also need a DAC?

I listen to a wide variety of music but classical top concern for quality. I don't want to spend a fortune right now, but

You don't need a DAC. For the iPhone just get the 3.5mm dongle and plug your IEMs in that way. I can't remember if the 15 is lightning or USB-C but either option is fine.

Ah ok I wasn't sure if the quality from just the dongle would be good enough. Is there any to avoid/go for? Is the official apple dongle good enough?

The 15 is USB-C.

In this case the analogy doesn't hold. Engine configs have a direct impact on the experience. Where as sound driver configs don't. 1 you'd be able to tell the other not a chance... Unless maybe you're a die hard enthusiast.

And worst case you can just return it or sell it on.

I have a single driver bluetooth IEM that I enjoy as much if not more than a multi driver wired IEM that's costs 100 quid more.

I never said it is the perfect analogy, the POINT being that I am buying something...tech specially, I want that basic information. It is like selling me a monitor and not tell me the basic spec that is a default information that is told by everyone else.

My point was here was driver configuration makes no difference to sound so he's got a point of withholding the information.

It's not important as... it didn't stop them selling out.

Fair enough you want it. It's only really to justify the price. But at the end of the day if it sounds good for the money.... Who cares about the configuration.

My point is I don’t care whether it makes a difference, tell me what I am physically paying for.

Physically, the object, in this case the drivers.

I, the customer, who is handling over my money, to you, want to know, what, I am, paying for.

I thought that was clear from the start. I don’t know how else I can say it.

In this case you're want is something Crin doesn't care about. We're going round in circles here.

I'm only giving my 2 cents on why he's kept a lid on that info. Chill out.

I already said from my very original post "he is trying to teach us"....so yes, circles....I am aware from the very start.

Added ISN H20, KB Ear KB02 (with bone conduction) and Ziigaat Odyssey to my collection. Pleased with all of them at very reasonable prices.
