If only she was armed.

Lets spare a thought for the boy to, he is going to grow up carrying this event with him for the rest of his life.

An 11 year old has sufficient cognitive powers to understand life and death. And a decent understanding of right and wrong.

An 11 year old is not a victim when he deliberately shoots and kills someone. That 11 year old is damaged /before/ the shooting. Most (western) children of that age would not be able to bring themselves to commit murder.

Horrific.. Whilst my feelings go out the parents of the girl, I can't sympathise with the American citizens any more because it's in their hands to change the guns laws

"The Gun Violence Archive, a not-for-profit organisation that compiles data on gun violence in the US, says 559 children aged 11 or under have been killed or injured in the United States in gun violence so far this year."

They need to change now to make a difference for future generations.

Problem is they won't. Too many of them refuse to give up their arms and there is even a massive push to have teachers armed in schools now to stop killings as opposed to stricter gun laws.

I'm losing sympathy for a country that refuses to deal with this issue and actually want to prevent this from happening.

I actually feel the same tbh.

Each time this happens, part of me just gets frustrated and angry that this is happening.

However recently I've started thinking more along the lines of, "If you want this silly *right* to bear arms so much, then this is the price you pay - so tough **** deal with it, and stop moaning - this is how it is, this is how you want it"

Then I get upset to see how the NRA has a hold over everything, and that the whole thing is so complicated and politically weird that I'll never ever understand, or have any idea on how to solve it.

actually my point was just saying "ahjhh but its locked up" is not enough...

It's a damn good start. He might not have even been plotting to kill her - the kid is mentally ill and he concluded that ending her was the best course of action. He probably just grabbed the gun because it was easily attainable. Let's not make these things easily attainable.

It works in this country.

The problem is with the US is the whole gun thing stems from the Constitution..

It is too easy to get guns, end of..

Little Johnny/Julie pulls out a nerf-gun or a water-pistol and gets a 38 special between the eyes from the teacher they have been winding-up/being a cretin toward all week. NRA protests it's justifiable homicide because the teacher had to make a split second under-pressure decision, protecting her/his-self and the children of the school. Teacher receives no charges, toy-guns/water-pistols banned.

Common-sense USA style.

It's sad how likely this exact scenario is

i think you'll find what works in this country is the drastically lower % of owner ship m,eans the chances of somone like this being in a house with a gun is much much much less likley

Sounds pretty standard for the kids around here. My in laws opened their door to some trick or treaters with knives last Halloween.

I live in Tennessee n haven't seen this on the news yet, they seem more bothered that McDonalds is doing all day breakfast. Probably because there's a shooting just about every day, even in the town I live in which has less than 70,000 people.

Not having lethal weapons to hand/easily accessible allows a cool off period, time for common-sense to take charge. There must be so many instances where someone shot a person in a place where weapons are easily accessed but it would have been different had the difficulty obtaining a weapon given them time to think.

The above is only one scenario where stricter gun controls could have a very positive effect.

Good luck trying to explain that to a committed US gun owner.

Yeah I mentioned it to my ex-pat cousin who lives in Florida, he called me a leftie limey.

He only moved over there 4 years ago, seems brain washing is more advanced than the gun laws.
