We live in worrying times,we do, its a distinct possibility again, isnt it. That thermo mutually assured destruction stuff!
This is hard to talk about stuff I know, but must be on the back of folks minds given the current circumstances ... I honestly never thought I'd see the day when a clearly madman like Putin bandys about the usage of Nuclear weapons again as if it were normal :(
Back in the day and in the original cold war My Dad was in the RAF at Wildenrath West Germany, GR1 Harriers, Phantoms n Stuff... it was a tense stand off game against Russia.

As a kid you kind of got used to the sirens and Dad had to scramble, it was all Tacky Vals, sort of an abbreviation of Tactical Evaluations I guess.
Nobody wants MAD and you have to wonder who is in charge these days?, but when you see the likes of Donald Trump loose talk with Putin and during his tenur and saluting Kims generals on live TV. you have to wonder where Donalds loyalty lies

I think at this point a nuclear exchange in our life times is inevitable ... sadly.

So assuming the inevitable happens in our life time, what would you do? Fortunately I live beside a large RAF base and would rather be taken out in a heartbeat if the worst came to the worse that way.
Honestly, the aftermath of a nuclear exchange does not bear thinking about, it wont be like the movies for survival, it will be much more horrific.

Just LOL if the closest we'll get to MAD is a not very funny magazine your dad used to buy but now you're older and you realise it was actually quite funny if only you hadn't been a young dumbass.

e: noobs.

This will never happen obvs.

Before we even got close to that point we'd create a task force to send in and wipe out their nukes before they even begin to locate the launch sequence.

Tom Cruise, Liam Neeson and Idris Elba would be my choice, they'd kick ass and save us all from dying.

No Jennifer Lawrence?

The whole mad thing isnt thought out :p
It relies on everyone having the view that losing everything is tragic.
What happens when your player doesn't give a toss and that's not an issue?
Do you just nuke back because....
Doesn't that make the retaliation strike threat a blessing fulfilling the expectations of the admitted loss.
Why are all players meant to have the same Western morality?

I tend to not worry about things completely out of my control, it's a waste of time and energy

This really.

One thing I have been thinking about is the possibility of technology to intercept ballistic missiles.

Obviously you have physics working against you, but I don't think it would take much to sufficiently deflect or destroy a missile, even a moderate sized projectile.

The problem is if the incoming missile if already airborne, you are fighting thick atmosphere at ground level, plus gravity, against something that already has a head start.

My only other thinking is something deployed from a sattleite.

And of course, it's never going to be 100% effective, and you are never going to know until you actually need to test it

But I would have thought this needs to be explored, because as we go forward this is only going to get worse, Russia aside, it's when some if these religious nutter rogue states get hold of nukes, and let's face it, it will eventually happen, and they simply won't care about MAD because their leaders, A. Don't give a **** about their own people and B. Probably believe they'll all end up doing n some heaven with 50 virgins so have nothing to loose anyway.

Its an incredibly complex problem made worse by new hyperglide missiles which can, apparently, avoid attempts to intercept.

I would send my wife and kids off to the blast zone so that they get completely incinerated first in a rather painless way. After I don't have to worry about keeping them safe I'd go lone wolf in the woods and become a survivalist. If anyone ever came across me I would tell them my sad history about how I lost my wife and kids to the original blast. This would explain my lone wolf survivalist, untrusting ways.

I think it would be epic. I could even carve small figures of them that I keep in the sleeping part of my camp.
