If there's 1 generation of gaming you could play forever, which one would it be?

All 3 were great for me with rpg's but if pushed I suppose gen 4 mostly for Shining Force and the similar snes games

Since this thread isn't in the console forum, I object to the classifications. :) For me it's the whole of the 1990s, from Wing Commander to Freespace 2. From Wolfenstein and Doom and Duke Nukem to Half Life and Unreal Tournament. From whatever to TOCA 2. I suppose the end would be marked by the massively multiplayer games like Everquest.

For me it would be my mid 80's BBC model B.

All the arcade classics of the era (Defender, Pac Man etc clones) plus groundbreakers like Revs, then , along came Elite...

Many good systems have come and gone since, but, those were the days especially when you consider the limitations of a machine that had 32K of RAM and how those limitations were smashed by remarkable programming...

Copying Amiga games was epic. Hitting the light bulbs on dual floppy disk copying mode.

Either the spectrum era.......... (Gen 1? I got my speccy xmas 1983 complete with Horoace goes Skiing) or the Amiga era (gen 3? - i got my A500 xmas 1987 or 1988 i cant remember - it came with wizzball, barbarian (psygnosis), obliterator, terrorpods and ECO )

all the different generations had their highlights but one of those 2 above were the highlights for me (Elite being a defining game for me, closely followed by Kick Off 2 and Stunt car racer)

damn I remember xcopy! there was a couple of other copying programs too, sure there was one where you could play tetris at the same time, names elude me though

Good question! I'm in my late 20s (27) so it's the 6th gen for me, pretty much my time throughout childhood and my name is a dead giveaway.

I think it depends on what you grew up in and if someone was born in the 80s, I'm sure they would say 4th gen

5th Gen for me - Gran Turismo 1&2 on the PS1, N64 with Goldeneye and F-22 Total Air War ('98) on the PC are, for me at least, the very definition of "great gameplay lasts even when the graphics fade" and I will happily play those games and give up things like CP2077, DCS etc in return.

well i have never had a console, but it would be 6th gen PC, when broadband became available in my area and Battlefield 2 online and its various mods, after that Battlefield got graphically better , but the game got worse until it finally died with BF2042
