If you could go back in time, where would you go?

~30AD see Jesus

See Solomon's Temple
280 BC Colossus of Rhodes
9 August 48 BC Battle of Pharsalus
25 October 1415 Agincourt
23 September 1803 Assaye
21 October 1805 Trafalgar
18 June 1815 Waterloo
5/6 June 1944 (to the see invasion force/fleet not sure I'd want to see the actual landings)

See my home during the time of the Anglo-Saxons

The construction of the Great Pyramid.
Visit ancient Rome in the time of Hadrian.
Witness Austerlitz, one of Napoleon’s greatest battles.

Yea, those too :)

I'd like to somehow stop the American war of Independence too :) Put those upstarts back in their place ;)

The 5th August 1986 to Hetherwood Hospital & kill my baby self just to see if reality itself would collapse.

If it doesn't then I'd go back to the times of the british empire and using my superior knowledge & technology finish what we started and Conquer the Globe!

Now that I've thought about, with access to a time machine I'd have to make it my mission to give Tony Robinson and the likes of his so called "Time Team" a seizure. Imagine their surprise to find a tapestry titled "Two Wenches, One Chalice" near Bayeux, or "Romans Go House" all over the ruins of the Temple Mount in massive letters. :D

It doesn't matter.. I'd use the 3rd pass to go back and claim more passes :D

So you can go backwards and not forwards?. Well if i can return to my original point in time id do the obvious as others have already stated:

1) See if jesus was real, he would have to do some kind of miracle

2) Record at few months worth of lottery results now and then go back in time and get my winnings. These results should always be the same as long as you do not change anything significant before the results are picked.

3a) If 2) did not work i would make an investment in the past and reclaim it in the present. This could include informing my past relatives of the "correct" investments etc to make.

3b) If 2) did work I would go and try and find the city of alantis or something equally crazy.

Even if you somehow believe it yourself (which I still find unlikely), the impression you've given on this forum over the years is not in doubt. Live and die by your own words *shrug*

Yea but thats your own opinions cast onto my words, words are not precise, they allow for interpretation wayy too much.. so it gets annoying when you jump to conclusions and believe that the only reason i am saying things is to either annoy people or troll?

I take things for face value and never try to read between the lines and assume stuff ....although that is difficult i keep my interpretations surpressed and answer at face value, the only person who properly responds on here is semi-pro :(

Anyway - back to time travel :D

Ok so last i said was about if you go back in time would exactly the same thing happen?

Lets say last week you had a really bad poker hand, flopping quad aces, calling someones all in, and the guy hitting a royal flush, and you lost £1000...

Having a time machine you go back in time to tell yourself to fold quad aces, because its going to fail...

However i dont believe the exact same thing would happen, the cards only become "real" when you observe them Anything else would disprove quantum mechanics completely or you would have to create Temporal quantum mechanics to be seperate

Discussion about time travel is going to get very very messy, and when you think about time as linear, as most do you get it all wrong!

Well thats assuming all our theories on quantum mechanics are correct. Also if you observed the same object at the same point in time in exactly the same way how would that change the outcome?
You would simply inform them to fold at a given point, giving any other information may change the outcome. Of course the consequences of this action maybe even worse, who knows you might have gotten off lightly...

Probably 10 years back and get my old man some help so he didn't "go" so early (4 years ago).
Back around 50ish years and stop my mum falling downstairs - messed with her ankle and they never got it right (fixed wise) since.
Back around 10 years so I didn't miss a lady I was seeing tell me I was hers (long story), I missed it as was in a hurry to get off the call and we were never quite the same from then on, I think life would have turned out VERY different.

Perhaps all rather selfish but key moments for me. Sure, go back, shoot hitler, blah, blah but they are kinda canned responses and could have WAY bigger consequences than you might think.

Eg: Kill hitler, no WW2, no west/east fallout afterwards, less interest in space due to no nuclear arms race. Nukes get discovered a few years later, germany and russia are friends, nuke the world.

Better to keep it to things that matter personally imo.

stopping WW2 would be a strange one for me, my grandad was a POW over here, so if he had not have experienced the UK my father would not of been born over here, met my mum and had me....

So I want WW2 to happen so that I continue living, stopping it would be my ultimate sacrafice...

1. Few months ago - Buy that Euro Millions lottery ticket that was worth 100 million.
2.Queen live at wembley - 1986 - Probably have to go back to bout 1985 to get a ticket!
3.Jurassic era - see dinosaurs and gather evidence that would hopefully shut the creationist scum up forever.

25AD (become emporer of rome)

1942 (help hitler, not to win, but to prolong the war 10 years)

cannot think of 3rd right now, im a bit drunk

Sounds sad, but id go back to 1900. Im researching the histories of my 2 old schools which were built in 1876 and 1893 so i can get an idea of what they were like when built as they were modified and extended in the 1920s and 30s. They are being demolished now :(

Depends how do we know there aren't multiple timelines running parallel to our own. Say one person goes back in time from our timeline and alters the past does our original timeline cease to be or does it continue undisturbed on a path parallel to the one that had been altered?

LOL Pratinum87

I don't know, I'd like to go back and just see what things were like, so I'd probably spend a few days in most time periods :)

Nobody knows only time will tell. ;)
