If you want cheap SSDs buy sooner rather than later!

AM - is NAND manufacturing as efficient as it's going to get or is there still room to make the manufacturing process more efficient?

Some marketing director from toshiba said this a few days ago

"The NAND memory community is continuing to develop new technology which will improve capacity and lower cost per GB in each lithography change. As we move to SSDs based upon 1x nm NAND, we will enable higher capacity and lower cost SSDs"

I see this as having more effect on USB sticks & Memory cards these prices have also tanked in receent times, indeed thats what Toshiba highlighted in their statement. Toshiba also won't want to run its factory at less than capacity for an extended period of time, although Samsung were making noises about cutting capacity as well.

Ordered one with my new monitor :) Went for the intel 330 120gb.

How should i go around moving my OS/Games/Music onto the SSD?

I got 20GB worth of music/90gb Games (Only going to use 3 main games for the ssd)/and the OS.

Backup the games/music and clean the HDD with dban then fresh install Win7 on the SSD or will there be a easier route?

Come on then Andrew, give us a mega deal on a 128GB (Crucial if possible) and my money is yours. I know there are lots of other peeps on here waiting for it to happen. :D

Id like to but Crucial cost is poor. They have simply lost the plot and allowed other resllers to trash with no margin. That gives the illusion to you guys that the price has dropped. This is far from the case, in the last couple of weeks the cost has gone up by more than £1 yet the price seems to keep falling to customer? Its desperation from those needing a sale that is all.

Ok then, I will settle for a "bloody silly price" on the Samsung 830 128GB instead :D :p

Or perhaps the corsair force 3 120GB but it would have to be a really bloody silly price for it :p :D

Samsung drive massively faster.

If the Samsung was £79.99inc, the Corsair Force 3 would have to be £49.99 for me to consider due to the performance difference on offer.

Okay then drop the price on the Force 3 to £49.99 and give us the price drop on the samsung then.... easy peasy ;)

Hence why I said "a really bloody silly price" for the force 3 :p

Not too bothered about the speeds as it will still be very snappy in real world use but as you said, considering the current cost of the force 3 compared to the 830 and m4 and the difference in performance, there is no way I would pay that much for it.

And as Stelly said ;)

:p

If you could get the samsung to £70 then I will buy it straight away :)

(can get it for about £74 somewhere else)

I love the idea of a SSD but at the prices and sizes I just don't think one would be useful to me.

If you install your OS on it, your PC is generally faster at loading stuff that is on that drive? 128gb just doesn't seem big enough to put the kinda games i'd want to load faster on.. :p

I hope they don't get too expensive in future.

Thats cost + around 15pence. If they want to be idiots and lose money then I will happily let them :)

Factor in the wages of staff here involved in picking the product and packing it and then shipping it and we have a loss.

Theres a reason why OcUK are as big as they are today and thats because unlike many other companies in the industry, our heads for 99.9% of the time are actually screwed on :p
