Ignorant builders

A very simple yet effective solution is to mine your drive with some shaped charge plastic explosive. Anything that gets on your drive you can blow off with a simple press of a switch.

There are times when you have to make a stand on principle, and there are times when it is easier to just go with the flow. Namely, if you have to get somewhere :p

Foreman: "Do you want your car out?"
Me: "Yes please"

:p

this..

Foreman: "Do you want your car out?"
Me: "Yes please, I've been trying to find someone for half an hour and it would have been nice to have been asked if we needed access before you parked up on our land"
Foreman: "I've not got time to knock on every ******* door

hammer in his face.....i probably wouldnt go thru with it but they are the first thoughts that come to mind.

maybe you should ask him nicely to let you out then block him in.....see how he likes it.
so he may smash your car out of the way...claim through his insurance

I'm not worried about trouble from the builders, plenty of people nearby who can deal with them if necessary.

I went to speak to one of our friends over the road who's next door neighbour is also having the same work done, apparently the builders cut her water off (our friend, not her neighbour who's actually getting the work done) with no warning for 3 days, they then started cursing at the feller from the waterboard who came to fix their **** up when he asked them how they'd managed it.

Anyhow, the JCB is gone now, car is out on the road preventing them getting anywhere near our drive, I'll just have to not use the drive until they've finished their work in 2 months time.

Threaten that you'll send fox over to him to complain about the quality of plastics and ride quality in his jcb.

If they block your drive again, secretly film you chat with the foreman so you can show his bosses what they have working for them.

Get two of your mates to come round, one with a decent camrecorder and pretend to be from "Britains worst builders" we'll be out of there in 5 seconds

This. Your reply was just asking for it :/

I think his reply was fair enough, it wasn't like he was swearing at the guy & he had every right to be angry.

Take pics, maybe go back out and record a conversation with the guy if you need to speak to him again - and complain like **** to the housing association and other relevant bodies.

If you needed to go anywhere in a hurry and couldn't get your car out I'd have been tempted to just get a taxi and then bill them/take them to the small claims court too.

Tact and diplomacy for the win.

This ^^ I have to deal with builders a lot and frankly some of them can be plonkers, but a few friendly words and they'll go that extra mile to help you if you have the right attitude. I'll tell the OP where he went wrong:

Me: "Yes please, I've been trying to find someone for half an hour and it would have been nice to have been asked if we needed access before you parked up on our land"

Should have been:

Yeah, ta mate.

Once he's moved, just say that it's private property and ask them not to block you in.

Yes it's annoying that some people are ignorant but it'll get results with the aggro. I live in a dead-end street meters from Parkhead stadium (no pun intended) and frankly getting blocked in my parking space happens at least once a week by builders, celtic fans, bowling fans (bowling club nearby) or the bin men!

Most builders are like that :D

because most of them are chavs.

recently the road along the back of our house has been resurced.

they ripped up the old surface, disapeared for 3-4 days leaving a road full of massive stones and this is a road that leads to a dead end car park and all the garages on the back of peoples houses are along it....

anyway they eventually return with 2 JCB's some mammoth machine that laid down the new tarmac surface , 2 mini roller things to flatten the surface that were about the size of forklifts.

one massive truck full of tarmac that kept loading the mamoth machine as it laid the new surface.

we never ever had warning they were coming to work on the road, no one was asked to move there cars or anything and they apeared every day around 7 in the morning with there jack hammers etc.

i'd rather have had an old school 90's rave on my lawn.

all the chav builders were swearing all day long and they didnt properly clean up after themselfs broken tools were just left laying around
