Ignorant iPhone users

 The arrogance of the OP is just amazing! How arrogant can one person be! Just because your friends don't know what Android is doesn't make them ignorant. Maybe they just don't follow technology so don't really care? Not everyone follows mobile phones and operating systems for a hobby.

It amazes me how arrogant a lot of tech people are when it comes to others not knowing about something and the tech person thinking they are stupid because they have never heard of it! When I go biking and don't know something about bikes, you aren't called stupid but people enjoy talking about it and explaining. Never understood what it is with the tech people that think anyone who hasn't heard of the latest technology is stupid/ignorant

Lol...relax.

It's not only that, but in general I find that many people just think iPhone is the greatest and bestest mobile and they have to have it regardless of the price and what else is available. Heck when I went to the o2 shop a few months ago I had to wait in a queue of people wanting to buy iPhones, the woman in front took out 2x contracts on the iPhone. I'm sure if you sat with her and tried to sell an alternative phone with superior features, she wouldn't give a toss and just go with the iPhone anyway because it's an iPhone!

I'm not denying that the iPhone isn't a good bit of kit because it is. :)

And how does this affect you?

I wouldnt have an iphone, as they are overpriced, and a bit of a snobs phone (but more the price). But you cant deny the brand is very powerfull and they just work on the whole, for the average joe, you turn it on, but an app and sync easily with itunes, with the popularity of itunes its open to more of the average joe than the geeky android stuff, as they feel comfortable with it!

Personally I tend to go for phones which are a generation old, Ive had a Hero for a year and I find it fits my needs very well, and it was cheap.

I'd love to work for Apples marketing dept tho, must be an awesomely easy place to work, just repackage the same old ****! But its like owners of xboxes and PS3's fanboyism rules really!

I find it amaizing how people act like brand loyalty is something new apple created and must be hated for cultivating!

Even the much famed Appstore wasn't that great in that a lot of free apps on Android were pay for on iPhone.

Was just browsing Google news looking for the top apps of the year lists :) and came across this article in which the maker of Angry Birds talks about Android... it may be that the reason some apps like angry birds etc are free is because the makers find it too complicated to actually implement paid apps on the Android systems.

Other devs seem to have no trouble implementing a pay system but the problem is not all parts of the world have all paid apps in Android Market (yet) - Free and generating revenue via ads is the Google way anyway and Rovio are going to make more money in 1 year on Android with Angry Birds than on iPhone if their projected revenue is accurate. Probably even more given the Android growth currently going on and with no sign of stopping.

Nobody is complaining at all in that article, it amplifies the different strokes for different folks agenda really.

I didn't post the article to put across 'lolzz iphone is better than android!!!!!' - just thought it was an interesting article relevant to the thread.

Though this thread is pretty ridiculous and quite ironic.

This thread is quite funny, you have andriod fans saying people who buy iphones are idiots. Then people who are iphone fans saying andriod fans are idiots. People are just defending "their" prefered option.

The odd sensible comment which just gets trolled over by the fanbois.

The irony is quite ammusing. Its reasons like this thread why I don't really bother with the mobile phone subforum

No different than most forums on here then, there is an element to fanboyism in all forums :p

Normally I'd agree with you, but this thread actually doesn't seem to follow that trend. As far as I can see, there is for once far more reasoned opinion than there is fanboyism. Last time I frequented the mobile forum, threads with titles such as this would turn into a flame war and be locked after only a few posts. This one has ended up quite balanced though, albeit with a flawed subject line.

IMO, right now, you can't beat a jailbroken iPhone. However, unjailbroken, things are a bit more murky. If Android can sort out the Marketplace and get some more big name publishers in there, along with a higher overall quality of apps, things will change.

Read what you written - it really just sounds like you (like quite a few Android users here) have a large chip on their shoulder regards the iPhone. You just sound like a kid who is jealous cos their friend got a percieved better Christmas toy car...

Your life really doesnt sound healthly or that fulfilling if you on a regular basis feel like you have to justify your purchase by telling others how wrong they are - sounds more like buyers remorse :p...

If they are happy and you are happy - does it really matter? Lets hope you dont stalk Toys R Us with the same objective about how better Barbie is over Sindy ;) - least you can tell the Police that :p:D...

ps3ud0

My main reason for not wanting an iPhone (apart from irrational brand hate), is the fact that you can get a similar performing phone for a fair wedge less. My Desire cost me about £70 more than I sold my Legend for, so ~£250 total. I think we all know an iPhone 4 costs a bit more than that, even when broken. There's the 3GS, but that's not a partch on the hardware of the Desire/its equivalent Android devices.

TBH if I could've picked up an iPhone 4 for the same kind of money, I'd probably have gone for it.

Does anyone have a hard time explaining to people what Android is?

I have plenty of friends of have iPhones who all pay extortionate amounts and they refuse to believe that Android is as good as iOS!

Generally I get a lot of "ohh whats that?" - When I explain that it's an Android handset their faces go blank as if to say "android what?"

Silly people :D

I always find it fascinating how phone geeks think their level of knowledge is "normal" compared to the average user.

Mst people buy an iPhone because then know it provides a seamless experience and then they can go about their lives as normal without having to worry about other phone OS's.

The initial outlay is more than other phones, but then the resale price is nice and high also, so you don't really lose out as much as people like to make out.

^ True, the iPhone 'shuffle' will save dump loads + now it's available to all networks contract prices are getting more competitive (thank god!) It's also good for long term ownership if your not interested in every new app/feature :)

...But it simply can't compete on price if your prepared to wait a few months after the latest Android has dropped (eg. Desire/SGS free on a £15 contract etc) or when current high end hardware moves to the mid range (eg. Motorola Defy, £250 for iPhone 4 hardware)

One thing I've noticed, HTC are really being talked about more and more down the pub (by people who have no idea or interest in OS/hardware etc, mainly contract upgrades from 2 year old Nokias etc) Defiantly a brand name on the rise.
