170bhp rwd. i drive around 50 miles a day, loads of roundabouts, loads of clear roads. Not once have i powered out of a corner or roundabout and lost the back end. Its let slip once or twice, but nothing major.

you need to learn when and where to press the loud pedal, or stick to nfs:u or something tbh

Can we tone it down to solitaire? Super online racing skills can't be practised then. However...minesweeping can :D

Well I can, that's for sure.....but I prefer not to look like I'm completely out of control simply driving around a roundabout. Especially in a barge-o-matic like an Omega. So it very infrequently happens.

The solution is, you don't drive it like you stole it. It's prefectly easy to drive around a roundabout without going "OMG DRIFT KINGOR". Just take it easy! It's not a race or something.

Oh and I live just outside MK, and I'm sure we're all familiar with the roundabouts there :D

This is why someone your age should not be driving a car like that.

I spent last week driving a rear drive car putting 410nm of torque down through the rear wheels and didn't end up facing the other way.

This constant OMG RWD DANGER DEATH DESTRUCTION!!!!111one thing really does make me laugh sometimes. I remember when the majority of cars on the road were RWD, and I'm not talking that long ago (I'm 30). People weren't being killed everywhere you looked.

The driven wheels of a car are just one part of it's handling characteristics, you can get oversteery FWD cars (Pugeot lift-off oversteer for example), understeery RWD cars (standard S13 200SX springs to mind).

95% of everyday Joe Bloggs wouldn't notice what wheels are driven in most situations.

Yeah, but the average RWD car today is much more powerful than the RWD car 20 years ago. RWD used to be in anything from volvo estates and vauxhall shopping trolleys through to Ferraris.

Today we have FWD for the town cars and most things with less than 200bhp, and RWD for 'performance' cars in general.

However, couple RWD with stability control and everyone's laughing.

And there's the rub, modern RWD may be a whole lot more powerfull, but they are also a lot more 'safe'.

precisely!
same reasoning can be applied to driving an auto. 95% of the time the driver doesnt need a manual, infact its probably more than that!

I thought "Dad's 530d" but,I did'nt think it produced 410nm of torque,I think its higher... more to the point, I can't be bothered to Google it & check! :o :D
 
Anyway,with a paltry 410nm of torque, you should be able to stop the rear stepping out a bit.....

Try 1500 lbft torque at 1000 – 1500 rpm. ;) :p :D

I know what you mean actually....but he was merely implying that some people have the restrain or common sense/skill to drive RWD cars....I.e do not drive it in an aggressive fashion.

I'm younger than Fox and have owned nothing but RWD cars ;) :D

Thats fair enough its true, but theres no simple way to decide who is and who isnt safe, im sure if you stuck the worlds most safest driver (TW-Fox :cool: ) into a Ferrari 360 it may change his attitude over night.
