"I'm Skint"

Absolutely.
My Nephew earns £50,000 a year, lives with his Mum & Dad who basically pay for everything and he's skint.

Any more background on that one? I'm all for agreeing that just because you have a decent salary doesn't mean you're bank account is bursting, but if you earn 50k and have no rent, energy or food costs then you need a proper look at yourself.

No matter what you earn, you adjust to your income and live within your means, I find.

OP, why are you even bothered about this?

I'm skint. Oh ok nevermind....

That's my train of thought. Also I never eat out, it's just a waste of money. Unless it's a special occasion or something but you'd be surprised how much money people waste on eating out / booze.

That and I don't drink alcohol.

And they post on OcUK? :D If I was earning that sort of £ then I would be sitting on my yacht getting 'attended to' by beautiful women, not posting on here. By that statement I mean them making me tea and stuff of course.

In any case I would not shout off about my wealth.

Perhaps they just have different financial priorities. "I'm skint" doesn't have to mean they can't afford to go out for a lunch and a pint, it might also mean that they've chosen not to because they'd rather use that £7 on something that's more important to them.

I earn a decent salary and I'm still "skint" I don't use skint as a way to describe having no money, I use it in the term that I've prioristised the money elsewhere, I'm currently overpaying debts to get them clear, but if I didn't have the debts and was saving £1,500 a month, I'd still say I was skint if I couldn't afford to not save that money and use it elsewhere if someone asked me.

Really though people who use the word skint when they really aren't need a good punch in the face, you know when you really down rock bottom when you don't have a penny to your to name, i have been there and do not want to go there again, now i do alright for myself but i am well aware those bad times can arise again, don't fool yourself in saying it will never happen.

I've heard it for years from numerous different friends but to me just seem like a poor excuse. Nights out I could understand but some even say it when I ask them if they want to get lunch which is £7 for a full meal and pint!

Based on someone earning 20k the takehome would be £1415

Base figures for a nice(ish) apartment / half rent in a good house;
Rent £400
Bills £250
Food £220 (£50 x 4.33)
Lunches (£8 x 20) £160

£385 disbosible income a month left over

How can people be skint if you have a job earning 20k + (presuming you are sensible, none alcoholic / drug user / gambler / hooker addict etc.)

I live with my parents.. and i pay more than these figures you have provided.

Yes i DO have "disposable" income however that is not "disposed" of it's saved so i can eventually put a decent down payment on a mortgage. I am glad i don't enjoy getting drunk and don't smoke. I could not imagine losing that amount of money each month.

Also im glad i have no friends so i don't have to deal with being invited out for lunch.

I make 20k a day....

Are you guys peasants or what?
You need to get some life goals. Stop wasting it being losers.
