Nice sofa placement - do people have tiny legs in your house :p

Is the OP available as a financial advisor? All these years and you've made it sound so simple.

The more you earn the more you spend is how its been for us but also basically if you have kids expect to be skint moneywise but richer in other ways

ha ha 20k i wish ! took home under £200 last wk due to my 3 working days been short (hours alter with work load)
biggest outgoing was food and wine then £25 diesel as its 45 ml round trip to work and i travel to the beach to surf on my 4 off
mortgage free helps , just got a quarterly elec bill for £45 and the oil for the ch and hot water seems to last forever.
im mortgage free because i paid it off in 9 years ,wouldnt dream of paying £50 month for a phone contract or £70 for broadband and tv, theres people like this at work and they do constant overtime
get my pleasure from the sea and the countryside ,dont need to pay too much for it , oh and still £100 left for my isa and payday tommorow ;)

The more money i earn, the less money I have. When i was an intern (hell, when I worked part time at McD's earning £4 an hour as a teenager) I thought i was minted, i could go out whenever I wanted and i had money! Then I got my first real job, £26K down south - then I was thinking 'oo think of all the things I can buy', before realising rent + bills + council tax was £1000 a month..

Then you get another pay rise, you think 'oh i could get a nice car' - there goes the extra income, and repeat ad infinitum. Then add kids. I swear I had more disposable income as a % when I was an intern than I do now on a significant amount more.

I bought rolls (80p), Thick cut ham (£2) and ASDA pickle (60p)

The pickle will last me weeks and the rolls and ham are good for 3 days worth of lunch.

Yes I could afford £7 a day for lunch, but that's £140 over a month that I'd rather spend on other things.

Renting AND saving for a mortgage is expensive.

My Rent is £925 for a 2 bedroom end terrace in Chelmsford, and that's quite cheap compared to current market rates.

Guest2 do you live at home with your parents as you appear to have no clue what so ever on what it actually costs to live in your own place.

My mortgage is £665 (my rent prior to this was £695 PCM)
House insurance / Life insurance = £50
My water rates are £40
Council Tax = £130
Gas/Lecky = £80
Food is £350 (for a family of 3)
Internet/TV/Phone = £65
Mobile = £50
The boys dinner money for school = £50
Car costs = £150

Total = £1660 per month.

I've heard this used before, many times when I was younger. I think ultimately what some people do is put a value on the friendship. I like you enough to go out for a £40 meal but not enough to for an £80 meal, time to pull out the "I'm Skint" card.

How about "I actually enjoy spending time with you so what difference does doubling the cost of that time make?" Apart from leaving me £40 poorer.
Yes it's nice to go out and treat yourself sometimes but if you actually value a friendship then just popping out for a £5 burger and spending some time with them is good enough.

Some people's skint is different from others, skint to me is that your struggling to pay all bills and food every month. Somebody in work always talks about how they have no money but they go on four holidays a year.

Skint means having no disposable income when the bills have been paid. Broke means you don't have money to pay the bills.
