Image quality Plus speed is reason enough to go 8800.

i'll buy the fastest setup out at the time.. so i may wait for the r600 then i can keep my 2 dells :D

but i had been amd since i built my first rig.. and this time went pentium as it was the fastest available.

EDIT: just ran the FEAR test with my x1900xt clocked to xtx

Minimum 10FPS
Average 24FPS
Maximum 40FPS

THIS is why i want a faster card.

e.g. of the IQ
Click for full res.

What???  - What res are you running at? 5000x3000? - with over 7K marks to your name in 06, that seems abnormally low. F.E.A.R flew on my X1900XTX @ 1280x1024 - with min/avg/max like 500% your results:)

Im buying an 8800 GTX. DX10 coupled with Vista should be awesome.

Whats the difference with all the 8800 manufacturers, there is about 100 quid difference in some cards - BFG vs Gaimward?

Do some outperform others?

^Sometimes "relabelers" overclock them or put their own coolers on. Most of the time it's the software, wires, connectors, free stuff that is different.

Well I have read this thread with some amusement. I personally do not think that the G80 card is worth it at this time. As I said I Personally don't think its worth it. This means I wouldn't be tempted to buy one or two but for me I wouldn't see the benefit not unless I spent a vast amount of money.

Up until a few months ago I had been running a set of 6800GT's in SLi until both died and I thought that they were amazing. But then the replacement 7600GT's I got blow those out the water. My games play even smoother I can up the settings even further and the rest of the system has a new lease of life for some time.

Now for me to upgrade it would mean a whole new system rebuild as I would want to use the 8800's with a new processor, memory, sound card (possibly stay with onboard) and monitors. Now I would be looking at probably the best part of 2 grand for this sort of an upgrade. Which I simply can not justify to myself at the moment.

Now I have made the decision that if I am to get some of this uber hardware that it would mean I first upgrade my monitors. Now I would love a set of the dell 24" screens but It would take me several months before I could afford these. Now do you really need 24" monitors probably not but it would be a nice upgrade from the 2 17" TFT's that I currently have.

Now I have always said to myself that I will upgrade once the quad core cpu's are released. Now do I need one, No not really, will I see a benefit in games, probably not but at least I will have made a system that hopefully will last me another 2 years + that I can enjoy and then slot in the latest gfx card that will complement the system.

I remember the days when people started putting 2GB of RAM in their system and people questioned why you will never use it all. Well I wouldn't be surprised if may people on here don't use at least 2GB or more for their gaming rigs.

Fair play to those people who can afford these cards and you must have rigs that will complement these cards very well so it would be nice to see some screenshots from these systems.

I personally will sit here still thinking my 7600's are great but I know that there is better hardware out there.

They're all made to a reference design by Asus. Nvidia use a company called Flextronic to make them. The partners can change the coolers and offer higher clocked versions. Design variants usually come later on. In this case all the G80 variants have the same clocks. Buy the cheapest one with the best warranty/support.

Sense prevails? so you think its a waste of money to get a 8800 series card but you don't think it's a waste to get a R600 series card?
Does FANBOY mean anything to you?

What are you talking about you muppet? I've never been a fanboy of any brand... most of my cards have been Nvidia. Gotta love it when people post in an agitated state and make a complete fool out of themselves by throwing silly accusations around. I said i'd wait tll R600 is released and prices come down... want me to write it slower or in large, easy-to-read fonts to make it a bit easier for you? :D

thats the problem with most of the anti 8800 brigade, they can't SEE any reason to purchase one before DX10, aswell as the magical guesswork that goes into ideas like "Unless you run a 24"+ LCD at xxxxXxxx res" .........
When they don't have a clue what other people want them for, be it maximum details or highest resolution etc...

Again, muppet, i'm not anti-8800. You're on a roll eh?

Have you tried EVERY game at EVERY setting with every combination of components to come up with the conclusion of not needing one unles you have a 24" + LCD?

No because that's a stupid question. But I have been in the game long enough, and know enough about the hardware being released, to be able to judge these these things. The 8800GTX has made 24" gaming at max details a viable thing, but at lower resolutions there are cheaper cards that can do the job almost as well.

Any more nuggets of wisdom to add kiddo? ;)

Just because i'm excited and think everyone here should know :p

Just registered my card's and aplpied for the step-up program with EVGA.
SLI 8800GTX shouldn't be far off! :D
Traded in quad SLI.

Brilliant mate ! Great plan, I will too be getting 8800gtx SLI just to do some benching because thats what I like. My wife will enjoy SLI too as she is a gamer, and loves playing FEAR, PREY and Half Life 2 maxed out at a decent res :)

im getting a GTX now....why?! well because all u guys have convinced me! :) THe IQ is awesome and im getting a new rig and selling my old one for £400 so a good ammount of cash! :) Plus that is exactly enough to afford the GTX i have my eyes on ;)

I wish my girlfriend was a gamer lol! All i get from her is "I come to see you and all i get to see is the back of your head" :D

Anyway, there are loads of useful comments that can persude someone to buy a 8800. I think some people are asking themselves shall i wait or shall i just get it?

I havnt long had my X1900XT and im even thinking of selling it to get a 8800. But Im only playing at 1280 x 1024 so as most would agree my x1900xt is more than capable of giving me an enjoyable experience when gaming. It seems a lot more people play at a higher res and i can totally understand why they would want to purchase the fastest card available.

So to all you people who have a 8800 to play at a high res, congrats on the new purchase and i hope your enjoying it immensely ;)

But really when you think about that statement a lot of us are wishing we just seen the back of theirs 2.... ;) even better while we gamed :P

My 9800pro still does the job if you don't mind playing at 20fps. Which I have got used to, so its ok! :D

LOL, The best you could come up with was calling me a muppet twice aswell as a kiddo. :D

Thanks for showing me your inteligence. :p

I've been messing with the control panel's Quality AA settings...very nice indeed, i've used it to force AA with HDR in Oblivion, 1650x1080, everything maxed out. FEAR also runs sooo much smoother than the last time i played it on my old 7800gtx SLI setup, it's like chalk and cheese.

Just for the record, I paid *** for mine, inc vat and delivery, not 500, and as i got 300 for my GX2 on fleabay I don't consider it a particularly expensive upgrade.
