• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

Image quality Plus speed is reason enough to go 8800.

My scores are not far out without overclocking my cards but I'll still upgrade to the 8800 when Vista arrives, great card.

Not booing and moaning that you would rather have a holiday with the cash.

Anyone slating them as a decent card is simply in the wrong, however £500 would pay for a holiday for my entire family so I'll give it a miss but look on with green eyes :D

easyrider, please learn to read posts, booing and moaning was never mentioned.

The 8800 is not a new way of looking at graphics, it's a way of pushing the same graphics in the same games available to everyone a fair amount faster. And with a price tag too high for some people, that is simply life, no one is complaining, I can't afford a Ferrari but I don't moan about that either.

I would buy one. The IQ looks great ands its very powerful. But the IQ is compared to last gen, and we have no idea what R600 will look like.

BUT
1) It can't fold.
2) Within the last 2 months I bought a X1900XTX.
3) ATi's R600 offering will be able to fold

Does that mean the r600 will do cpu work?
I dont get why IQ would be better exactly, could this be shown in screenshots. If so can we have some please :D

A 8800 may be good but this rig here is still using a 8500 to good effect, the other end of the market salutes you :)

OMG.

What is it with all this blatent fanboyism?

Can you not look what you're saying and notice how stupid you sound?

To some people, FIVE HUNDRED QUID is TWO MONTHS RENT. Yes, that's right. They can have a roof eover their heads, or the most overpriced card in existence.

You want to wave your nVidia e-penis all over the boards, you do it. I'll stick to living within my means thanks.

i'm probably the biggest pauper on these boards. check the gfx in my sig  it's taking me 2 months saving just to replace my dead x800pro@xt pe. but i certainly don't mind reading about all this new stuff. if i didn't i'd hit the back button on my browser, not post about it.

i think really high end tech like this is great because it means low and mid range cards have to be that much better too. there's a lot more choice now than there ever has been. even with £100 cards you can still play a lot of games at decent settings, at 1280x1024 admittedly.... and this is all thanks to the way the nvidia/ati are pushing the boundaries with the high end kit. :)

Couldn't agree more - if someone really wants to own a Ferrari they will go out an earn it. Not much point in moaning about things if you can't be bothered to put the effort in to get it :D (my opinon!)

I'll wait until my ol X800XL feels like it's past it's best as to me games are lower priority in life!

I think probably most people have seen this, but here is the AF on the G80 series, quite impressive. :)

Now have a look at the images above and let it sink in. It goes too far to explain what you are looking at; but the more perfect a round colored circle in the middle is the better image quality will be. A perfect round circle is perfect IQ.

Are'nt u guys bored of bickering about this **** yet ! ?

It really comes down to how much value you place on gaming and how much disposable income you have. I simply don't have the income to justify spending that amount of money on a piece of hardware nor do I value frame rates and image quality enough to upgrade at this point in time. The blatant willy waving is somewhat tiresome, but considering you guys have just forked out a considerable sum of money, it's only fair that you do so.

I'll be waiting for ATI's offering as at least when theres some competition around, I can contently watch the price of 8800GTX plummet. :)

Amen to that. I'm sure they spend more time running benchmarks and arguing than actually playing games.

Whatever happened to playability anyway? Everything's about graphics these days - yawn.

I can top the scoreboards sometimes with just a 8500le. Graphics arent always that important to gameplay, at long distance a poor resolution does affect things though. Obviously its nice to have good graphics but I dont think its necessary in your average action game, acquire target, kill target. There is no, look how pretty target is :p

I agree about the competition thing, that only seems wise. Also in the longterm thats why I hope AMD eventually has a comeback for intel

You can hardly say it cost £120 though because you had to spend £300 or w/e before that to get it.

It's like me buying a G80, selling it, buying a 7300GS and saying I bought a 7300GS and earned £400 buying it.

Personally, I can't see why anybody would want to spend £300+ on a graphics card purely because when I play a game, sure that extra 6xAA on 1600x1200 is nice but personally it doesnt boost my enjoyment in the game. Only way a graphics card can boost my enjoyment is if I'm getting low fps OR can't see certain things because of the settings I run at (like, important things) as easy as other people.

If a £500 card boosts your enjoyment of a game by a substantial amount over running a game on a slightly lower res or turning a few settings off then that's fine and I would say it's worth it. But then most people don't play World of Warcraft (probably one of the most popular games out there) for because it has 1337 graphics it's mainly due to the gameplay which gives them enjoyment.
^Btw I was just using that as an example (but I'll still wait for some sarcastic comment about play tetris)

Win = If it gives you a boost in enjoyment over your previous card which it seems it has done for easyrider

Jeez, is Easyrider really Elrazur? His posts are THAT annoying.

I also love the way that the 8800GTX owners enjoy posting 3dmark scores. Yep, that's the one, SYNTHETIC benchmark scores.

In real games, the 8800GTX doesn't justify it's price. It simply gives you slightly better framerates at the high end, which 95% of people simply won't notice. "Hey Bob, my 8800GTX can do 110fps in FEAR whereas your X1900XTX can only do 100! Y00 l0se sucka!"

Then again, given how many people have started to realise that the card is just for posing, we were due a thread like this, another Easyrider "I have money and you don't" kind of thread.

They come up every time he buys a damn card.

Its exactly posts like this I'm talking about.

I'm merely stating my experience with using new technology.

You seem bitter my friend.

Why post?
Why complain?
Why insult?

It's not my fault you haven't got one.
