Then again, given how many people have started to realise that the card is just for posing, we were due a thread like this, another Easyrider "I have money and you don't" kind of thread.

They come up every time he buys a damn card.

I had a 9800GTX and wanted an upgrade, I just wanted to fastest single card solution (no SLI) so it had to be a 8800GTX. I'm sure I'm not the only person in this position, if I had a newer card just as a 7950GX2 I obviously wouldn't have upgraded.

Its exactly posts like this I'm talking about.

I'm merely stating my experience with using new technology.

You seem bitter my friend.

Why post?
Why complain?
Why insult?

It's not my fault you haven't got one.

Hang on a second, have you actually posted jack about your "experience"?

No, most of it has been fanboy inspired "buy this card it will change your life" rubbish.

I joined these boards so I could help other people.

It's clear why you joined, and it's not the same reason.

If you want to help, try actually reviewing the card, and not making threads about how much money you have.

Yeah, which is fair enough.

Just getting pretty fed up with the trolls which make out that your life will crumble and fall apart if you don't have this card.

Some examples of which I quoted above.

Thats fair enough.

My GX2 was slow compared to this 8800GTX.

I dont have to mess around with disabling SLI when using my 3 monitors anymore.

I just wanted the fastest single card solution (no SLI) so it had to be a 8800GTX.

How much faster is it compared to the 7950 GX2? Worth upgrading from quad sli to sli 8800 GTX if I can get on the evga step up program in your opinion? (I was told that you (easyrider) were the guy to give me info on all this :p)

If I'd just spent 500 quid ( sorry 400 ) I'd ...

A: Expect it to be very good
B: Crush my previous card
C: S**k me off in the morning and make breakfast after

Oh for the day when a top end release was 250.

Still we'd all love to see this incredible image jump. Any screenies of actual games?

You hang on a minute.

You are spouting nonsense now and making things up to satisfy your jealousy.

Who has said your life will crumble?

I'm fed up wit people saying what others should spend their money on.
I'm fed up with poeple saying rubbish like the 8800 is just slightly faster in games than last gen cards. When they have no experience in using one.

Your the troll.

A couple of things that amuse me about this thread

So I'm bored of all the threads dotted about saying its pointless anyone spending 500 quid on a gfx card ....

cont.......So I intentionally started a thread which would undoubtedly turn into yet another one :)

The GX2 that I had I thought ran all games the way I wanted, I was put wrong when I installed this card 8800GTX in my pc.

So you were happy with your gaming performance already and yet still spent £500 on something which by your own admission you didn't feel you needed. That is what people find unusual.

It's your choice and I'm glad you are happy but surely you realise that a lot of people regard it as a waste of money, if you don't like their opinion then simply ignore them, you do not need to justify your purchase to anyone other than yourself so calm down and simply enjoy it.

If it's that good why not review it and let people know in a more informative and intelligent way? .

Where did I say you said that? I merely incinuated that your posts were trying to portray this card as a life changing thing.

Tell me, how is this "a new way of at looking at GFX cards."

Looks pretty similar to me.

Jeez, is Easyrider really Elrazur? His posts are THAT annoying.

I also love the way that the 8800GTX owners enjoy posting 3dmark scores. Yep, that's the one, SYNTHETIC benchmark scores.

In real games, the 8800GTX doesn't justify it's price. It simply gives you slightly better framerates at the high end, which 95% of people simply won't notice. "Hey Bob, my 8800GTX can do 110fps in FEAR whereas your X1900XTX can only do 100! Y00 l0se sucka!"

Then again, given how many people have started to realise that the card is just for posing, we were due a thread like this, another Easyrider "I have money and you don't" kind of thread.

You've got a good point regarding Easyrider as I've not been about these forums much recently and even I've noticed this kind of attitude since returning. He even claimed I was jealous of him and the G80. I asked him why would I be as my card runs everything I throw at it?. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this.

The 8800GTX is a bad boy gfx card at the end of the day. It is Nvidia's best answer for a while with shimmering issues and no AA + HDR support plus being weaker at the highest res's with AA + AF on their older cards. Now the image quality is a little bit better than ATI's last offering and now can run HDR and AA together which must be a blessing to Nvidia users. The biggest downfall is that the Nvidia G80 takes more of a performance hit at the highest resolutions with AA + AF. Surely with this happening the R600 should shine for the people that run 2k x 1k res's. Plus the image quality is only slightly better than ATI's for now. When you look at how good G80 and X1000's image quality is compared to the 7900 series it just shows you that Nvidia have only edged the image quality over ATI. How long did that take Nvidia?.

Nvidia fans always claim that ATI are always playing catch up but it seems the G80 is the only card Nvidia fans can be proud off. It can NOW do HDR & AA. Old tech for ATI. It has now got a slightly better image quality than ATI's old tech. But it still takes a big performance hit at high res's with eye candy on. ATI already do extremely well here.

If you want a card for DX10 then I don't think this one is the one for anybody. If it's for a faster DX9 performance then I can see why anybody would have it / want it. I only think this is a pointless buy @ this price if your games are running great already.

Don't Insinuate.

I never said anything of the sort.

For a single card solution that offers Xfire/SLI perfromance I thought that would quite easy even for you to understand.

You state
"It simply gives you slightly better framerates at the high end, which 95% of people simply won't notice."

Based on what?

How do you know?

Slightly better framrates than what.
It destroys my GX2.

I'm starting to enjoy oblivion again.

I don't have a G80 card and may or may not get round to getting one depending on when I do my next PC build. I would say though that you need to step away from the keyboard and get some perspective. OCUK forums are comprised mainly of enthusiasts that enjoy getting high end technology and then trying to overclock the hell out of it. This fits with the way OCUK do business, catering to enthusiasts.

If you don't like people talking about high end tech, overclocks, and sometimes the pricing to go with it i'd suggest you're in the wrong forums. OCUK doesn't tend to be focused on mid range or old tech (although there is of course a healthy discussion about how to get the best out of that).

The G80 isn't just for posing, it produces real and tangible benfits over older cards, and, unless you have a top of the range DX9 card (for want of another way of classing it) it makes a stunning upgrade for most people.

Most (ok a generalisation but I think it's a fair one) people on the tech boards here enjoy discussing new technology, some get it straight away, other of us wait a while or shake our fists in envy at them for the time being. Generaly it's all good natured, but the fervant anti dx10/g80 posts by some people of late just seem to have got way out of hand.

These boards are financed by Spie and OCUK who make their money by selling this kind of stuff. It's the right place to discuss and have a laugh about high end tech, just chill a little.

Personaly I can't figure out the motivation for the posts. If you're happy with DX9 and / or your current card then great, just let the guys that have made the jump have fun and enjoy their new technology.

What is it with all this blatent fanboyism?

Can you not look what you're saying and notice how stupid you sound?

To some people, FIVE HUNDRED QUID is TWO MONTHS RENT. Yes, that's right. They can have a roof eover their heads, or the most overpriced card in existence.

You want to wave your nVidia e-penis all over the boards, you do it. I'll stick to living within my means thanks.

Looks like I'll be spending 4 months rent on two of the most overpriced cards in existence.
Or I could stick with my means and not spend money on anything as it could have paid for something else,
like being stupid and spending £30 on a very low end GPU as I could have bought a few pairs of underpants with that money which could have lasted me 2 months,

Pathetic.

To some £500 isn't a great deal of money, does that mean they can't buy the latest hardware to ensure somebody else doesn't feel bad  Obviously if it's out of your budget or you feel there are better things to spend your money on then don't buy a 8800 :D

If you are so easily offended by people spending lots of money on hardware please don't ever look at something like avforums.com where people spend £15K+ on projectors or £10K on a set of speakers ;)

Tbh, people who are moaning about the money, are either annoyed that they can't get one, or annoyed that someone else has one.

If people want to buy things leave them to it. Personally if I had the money I'd get one. No point moaning. Prices will drop, and maybe even better things will come out. Everyone has a brain, they can use it.
