Bought a Broken screen TV to fix my TV that died 3 months after warranty ran out...

Not bad £30 instead of £600 for a new TV
How does replacing that part fix the smashed screen?
 
14 Tado automatic TRVs from Amazon, £120 for 3 and they are now £207.

Quite a big house (that clearly needs some redecorating!) with quite a few rooms that don't always need heating, so this investment should pay back fairly quickly.

I really like the idea of these, especially if it means some rooms can be heated more than others. What I don’t understand is how it works. How can some radiators be heated but skip others if they are inline? Also how does this work with the thermostat, as normally if the temperature of the room with the thermostat is reached the heating goes off, what if a different room is set to heat more will that override a thermostat?

Explanation a couple of pages back. Effectively you need one on every rad.

Most radiators are plumbed in parallel I believe.

Correct, I bought a TV same model as mine that had a broken screen. I was so lucky the guy had posted it on ebay 1 hour before I saw, he was in Birmingham and I'm in London, but his cousin was coming back to London on that day.

He fixed the broken circuit board TV with a working circuit board from his broken screen TV.

Long day?

Brilliant work doing so.
I was amazed when Richer Sounds sorted a TV tech to do a home visit within days when mine died. I didn't really believe their 7 year warranty, but they were very much true to it (at least after 5 years!).
 
Is that TV a Phillips?

Mine started acting very strangely powering up yesterday, taking 10 minutes for the screen to light up after switching it on, so thinking it will probably get worse and if its an easy fix. 3.5 months out of warranty.

Was the one you bought exactly the same model number etc?

Rads aren't (or at least shouldn't be) connected in series. They take water from the pipes, connected in parallel.

Yes the one I bought was exactly same model number BUT sometimes different models share the same internals.

I was watching TV and out of nowhere it went off, even the standby led was off, so I thought was a fuse, checked the socket fuse and it was ok, so I opened it and checked the internal fuse, it was ok as well.
Searching online I thought was the power supply board, but at the end was the main circuit board.

That's exactly how TRVs with thermostatic heads work. When the room gets up to temperature, the valve should close. As such, you can set each room indepently. You don't need a smart system to achieve that.
 
Bought some Koken 3/8" shallow sockets, a 1/4"-3/8" adapter, a 3/8" - 10mm hex bit adapter and a few socket rails with all three sizes of clips. The stickers were a nice surprise freebie in the parcel.


All of the sockets attached to the rails. I need to get some 3D printed feet for the rails so they remain stable and upright.

They look like standard 3/8" sockets

Maybe it just the picture that makes them look taller then shallow sockets

Probably my wording as I'm used to the snap on nomenclature. That goes:
Low profile -> Shallow -> Semi-deep -> Deep

These are standard depth, between 23-28mm high.

Basically if any one thermostat or smart TRV is calling for heat, the boiler will fire and any radiators without a TRV will be heated.

The difference to a traditional system is that you can set schedules and automatically change the TRV position depending on day and time, rather than having to go round and change every TRV manually when you don't need some rooms heated, which few people would bother doing I think.

Yeah I bought 10 tado valves (£35 a piece earlier in the year) to do the same. Not all are fitted yet (only done 1 plus main thermostat until renovation done).

Means when me and Mrs in one room not heating up the rest of a 4 bed house e.g.just hallways, kitchens, bathrooms etc.

There is an argument for closing all loops causing a boiler inefficiency, but when you measure efficiency as "heat in areas you want" divided by input I suspect it works out.

I would say the app isn't as easy /ui friendly as hive however
