Decorating my daughter's bedroom

The Gucci belt of the paint world.

Costs as much to build the room as paint it! :D
Even the cost of valspar makes me wince

When the SSD / enclosure you've bought gets really hot in use and sits feeling just quite warm at idle, there's only one thing to do.

Heatsink it. Found this heatsink for just under six quid.

I've not got any thermal pads between the case and the heatsink so it's not going to be the most efficient but I'll see how it goes. This isn't used as a portable drive, it's just hanging out the back of the computer and it's not somewhere visible.

Yup, that's the one, he does a decent job of explaining why it's the price it is - You pay for the performance.

I don't know if he's downplaying the heat thing or whether the SSD he's using just generates less heat than the Samsung 990 Pro. Without the additional heatsink, even though it feels very hot, it's probably nowhere near hot enough to cause any issues but for the sake of just under £6, this was worth doing.

I can barely feel it's warm at idle now. I just copied 500Gb over very quickly and my IR thermometer gun showed about a 3°-4°C increase. That just makes me feel a lot more comfortable.

I guess how hot it get is relative on how hard it is being worked, mine is running cold, transfer some stuff totaled 10G over and the temperature hardly changed, went from 26c to 30c.
