DT1990, HD800S, and mainly HD6XX, I was using Audeze Deckard for many years, then last year grabbed a Violectric V202 which was a nice upgrade but was wanting something a bit more neutral with just a touch of warmth, also the highs were a bit rolled off on the V202 with the HD6XX, the V550 has been utter perfection with the HD6XX improving the soundstage and depth considerably, improved tonality, deep controlled bass, and the last vestige of any 'sennheiser veil' has been eradicated!

Unfortunately I've not tried the HD800S on the amp yet, I know that the V202/222 had amazing synergy with them, if your just using the HD800S then you could save money and maybe grab a Violectric V222, I mainly upgraded to the V550 with get more from my HD6XX which it has provided.

If you are considering the V550 then beware that the 'Pro' version uses a 256 reed relay volume control, so during operation of the volume you here faint little noises like a record scratch, these similar on all amps that use this type of volume tech, the sound comes from switching through all the relays rapidly, the reason for using this is using this relays is so that the audio bypasses the volume control entirely which improves crosstalk interference, and eliminates channel imbalances at lower volume levels, I'm still undecided whether to stick with this one or swap for non-Pro version, using the weekend to decide, I did have a non-Pro version on trail last week and sounded the same to my ears so may switch back.
Thanks very much for the detailed response and I'd love to hear how you find the 800s headphones on the new amp.

I know some amps work best with certain headphones, and that's the reason I went with the ADV820, but I guess some will be better than others and it's a case of finding that sweet spot between price and performance.

I can also hold off until there's a decent price on Ebay too.
