Because they're pretty cool little buggers and are very photographic in all manner of situations. There's countless communities dedicated to photographing Danbo in whatever scenario someone dreams up on Flickr/dA etc.

Plastic, there is actually 2 LEDS in the eyes and there is a switch on the right side on its head that you can switch it on.

They are keyrings, cost £1...I have (had) 3 of them, only Pentax though !
