She Who Must Be Obeyed.

It's generally used by neckbearded menchildren who somehow find themselves with someone who can, amazingly, stand the sight of them for longer than 4 minutes.

That's a lot of gear for somebody who has never snowboarded nor skied before. WHy did you decide to buy a board rather than renting? What if you don't like it?

Yea, wow. You've even got a go pro, it'd be years down the line before I had all that kit even if I had the money.

I've had combined about 10 weeks of skiing and would say that I am at a pretty good level. I used my friends go pro and it was great to watch back but I am still not good enough to warrant a gro pro though! Are very good though if you are going with family though :)

All the gear, no ******' idea ;)

Yeah pretty much! :D

To answer the questions. I bought the gear because I was going to buy boots anyway. Not that it justifies buying the rest of the gear. It's something I have wanted to do for years but always made a excuse not to go. So I decided to sign up to SCUK and go with 50 other people I have never met before. Having the gear means I have it and I will be going again. Even if it's just to the snow dome.

The GoPro just happened to be a convenient buy. It was on Amazons lightening sale for £230 and I need one for some geek videos me and a friend plan on doing. But I will taking it with me even though it is going to be the worst snowboarding video ever haha.

But yeah I made a special trip to Bristol last week just to get the gear and make sure I got fitted for boots. I got 10% off everything as a SCUK member and I had my board reserved and sent to the Bristol store as it was the last one and reduced from £430 to £300. But yes it was just short of a grand. There goes my Xmas and Birthday presents from my family haha.

My advice to you would be to film every second of you on that board. On my last trip the one run I didn't record resulted in a broken pelvis :/

Get some lessons before you go and try to get to a reasonable standard so you can enjoy your holiday:

1: You will fall over - better to do it in the UK, as it wont cost you if you hurt yourself - you also don't want to waste your expensive holiday being injured
2: Better to learn the basics on a dry slope or at a snow dome, lessons abroad are expensive and you wont get as much instructor attention as you will here unless you pay more.
3: Get some more protection: Wrist guards, Impact shorts and knee pads are all a good idea when learning (you have a helmet)
4: Take sunblock and lip balm and use it - even if it looks overcast / dull - the sun is fierce at altitude and snow just amplifies its effect.

I could give you loads more advice (have been lots of times, 20+) but it would fill thread and these will hopefully help, one other tip is get a couple of sets of decent base layers and also wear you boots around the house to break them in a bit.

Where and when are going?

Already booked lessons and they said I can up the level if I need to. Done a lot of dry slope boarding.

Wrist guards are in the picture next to the gloves. Only intend to get some knee pads and impact shorts aren't cheap and a bit overkill. I'm happy to take some bumps but broken wrists or messed up knees are things which never really get better over time.

Yep sunblock is already in the bag.

Val Thorens in late Jan.

I broke my thumb first day boarding on snow in France. Was boarding 3 years on dry before that, couldn't even click the boot release, ruined the holiday, its a lot different!

Lessons will help, enjoy it, it's much better than skiing. Some good looking kit.

Enjoy

Got the Xikar crystal humidifier for my "ready for smoking" humidor. I have some more Heartfelt beads on the way for the ageing humidor.
