I went through pretty much the same process with mine, I settled on a 330ci clubsport in estoril blue
I just don't earn enough to justify the running costs of the M3. The 330ci has plenty of pull so I'm pretty happy with it and have no regrets.
If you like your music I would consider upgrading the audio, even the hk isn't amazing.
I just had my opamps upgraded from baris on ebay and aux input added, I then fitted aftermarket speakers with everything else stock. While you're at it you should get the upgraded firmware for the speed cameras.
Nothing else really needs changing on the car, it has pretty much all the features.
I was waiting for a ClubSport to come up for ages, despite popular opinion I thought that the ClubSport alloys and spoiler looks perfect, gave the E46 330Ci an aggresive rear.
I am more than happy with the HK system, it's perfectly acceptable for my requirements. I picked up the car especially as it had the HK setup and I do like keeping things standard (which is why I probably won't get round to upgrading to xenons). However should the HK setup not be enough one day I might possible go down the same route as yourself.

90k miles and £5k. Full BMW service history, two previous owners. Beige leather, electric seats (standard on coupes), H/K, bluetooth, a few other small bits and pieces. No xenons but not sure if I will retrofit now, it depends on cost and aggro!

I wish they'd kept the face blank, I have the standard pebble and having 'Pebble' written across the bottom actually makes me prefer the standard version
