I agree with Edrof, that's great :)
If you don't mind me asking what did it cost and what's it's nominal retail value?:)

A wild IronWarrior post appears!

IronWarrior uses ANIME!

Except this time it's not anime (curently). To be fair a lot of the stuff IronWarrior posts in the thread even most anime fans wouldn't buy ...

It makes me pretty mad to be honest, it's not that the VAT is bad enough, it's the "handling" charge from Royal Mail or Parcel Force.

The handling is almost or more then the cost of the VAT and sometimes more then the shipping.

How can they justify that? How can they justify £7 to £9 for "handling" when shipping costs less that and that includes the price of handling the goods, boxing the goods, the box itself, the paper and the cost of shipping itself!

Yeah, had a nice £13.50 charge from Parcel Force the other week myself (+ the actual VAT etc on top of that). I suspect I'll get another next week as well as I've got another package which is probably with Customs at the moment.

would that coin have been round when it was struck?

The desired shape would have been round, but the technique of hammering coins, especially low value coins in quantity, rarely gave a perfect circle.

If you look at a tudor sovereign, you will normally find a far rounder coin due to the extra care taken in it's construction.

I like the portrait on that coin. Very pronounced. one of the first things that normally goes over time.

£50 which is about right. I've seen far worse ones for more though.

There are many coins which cost far, far more but there are plenty of reasonably priced ones out there too. It all depends on condition and rarity.

I like the portrait on that coin. Very pronounced. one of the first things that normally goes over time.

Do you collect at all? :)

Anime is coming this Summer. :D

I don't know, in my Anime community there are many who buy a lot of this stuff too, one example is a guy currently at Uni who has tons of IdolMaster stuff from shirts to figures. :p

£13.50 for handing? That's disgusting, that's pure profit for them just like Games Workshop prices.

What (meaningful) precautions/procedures are they meant to use?

You would hope that they have a third party rights IP indemnity in the general terms together with corresponding warranties - you'd have to be a bit dopey not to considering the nature of the business.

I know hence the currently in my post :)

But yes, £13.50 for handling + roughly £25 for VAT etc. I could have lied on the customs decrelation and said it was worth a lot less but that would have impacted on the insurance cover if anything went wrong with the shipment (where I was getting the package from allows the value to be specified down to the last yen).

it's not up to the print shop to verify the copyright owner.

Errr...., well verify isn't the right word, but the 'onus' is on them to ensure they aren't doing anything unlawful :p

Indeed. Which is why most automated booths have a big "I agree this is my own content" disclaimer which you have not accept before use.

It's also why some printers have refused to print images which look "too professional" without some sort of proof that there is correct licence to do so.

Sure they can just pass the responsibility onto the customer but they cannot just provide a service which openly makes a mockery of IP and copyright rules.
