I actually wanted to say that it is odder than collecting stamps, but I couldn't put my finger on why earlier on. I think I've got it now.

Stamps, at least old school stamps, became rare as an artifact of their intended purpose - they were largely destroyed or replaced with newer editions, thus increasing the desirability of discontinued and 'non-used' examples. In stark contrast, steel books are goods purposefully marketed as being 'rare' and are released in limited quantities to keep prices artificially high / justify their inflated value. It's just such a weasley and blatantly obvious example of consumerism, clever coporates duping you into paying more for a product. I mean... surely people must realise this! But apparently not. Clever corporates laughing all the way to the bank.

limited edition stamps have existed longer than dvd cases :p

But surely that's like anything? They even release collector edition stamps. Are they worth anything now? No, but will they be worth more in 100 years? yes quite possibly. Least with a steelbook you can double your money(if you want to sell and if its obviously rare enough) a day after purchase.

I think it's slightly more understandable with stamps because their standard use meant that finding unused examples more tricky. But ultimately yes, people will just collect what they want to collect.

The one on the right is more pleasing to the eye!

For anyone interested, the bundled metal strap is not worth using. From the reviews online they rated the PVD coating as hard wearing, with minimal marring after weeks of usage. Mine, however, feels very cheap to the touch/sight and has lasted less than 12 hours before immediate marring has become apparent.

turns out even when you arrive at a police station with the criminal with a confession and the evidence it still takes an hour to be seen....

Friend who i'd been staying over with to look after them as they weren't feeling well had been taking my card out of my wallet at night then putting it back in the morning :/
