We're looking at buying a SP3, how are you getting on with it? What model is that, I'm thinking the i3 64gb or i5 128gb, as I might fancy doing a bit of photo editing on it one day (very light).

What are your overall thoughts with it? My plan is to get an external 24" monitor to hook it up to when I'm in the office, and then when I'm in the lounge or need to take it out, just buy the official keyboard.

I have an unhealthy obsession with the Surface line. :o Previously had the RT, SP, S2, SP2.

SP3 is the first one that has been just right. New screen aspect ratio and size is excellent for work.

Model is the i5 with 8GB/256GB.

Biggest issue is scaling, Windows 8.1 forces the same level for all monitors. So I can have Dell 25" (2560x1440) at 100% then the Surface is tiny or make the Dell large. Windows 10 fixes this issue completely with independent scaling per monitor.

Great tablets, not amazing laptops but problem is completely avoided if you have a desk or hard surface to type on, but typing in your lap is annoying.

Build quality is excellent, if they SP4 has the same form factor but ran a little cooler and faster that would be great.

Once Windows 10 is released I can see myself moving from my desktop to a Surface full time.

Thanks for the info POB, pretty much what the reviews have been saying but I hadn't heard about the scaling, which is very interesting.

I think mine would be used at my desk with an ext monitor, keyboard and mouse, in the lounge with the touch pad or in bed as a tablet (rarely).

Is the pen any good? I love the idea of taping the pen for instant note takings. Being a part time student this would be fantastic.

Sounds like you've got a higher end one than I'd be looking at, prices seem to be best on the MS store as a student so I might take a look at that config.

Cheers!

New phone :)

although I have to say, I will definitely miss my OPO, such a good phone

but living in an area with nearly zero signal makes the EE wireless calling option too good to pass up

That looks like an incredible amount of faffing around just to potentially save a few quid.

I bought a similar spread, tried it a few times, way too much faff, decided growing a beard and trimming it with a £15 electric trimmer worked better all round.

Never looked back, although the razor makes a very attractive paperweight :D

The singer? if so yeah I know him, he annoys the locals because all the girls coo over him when he plays in our local. He hasn't been down for a while now though, good for us; sad for him forgetting his roots :(

That's the one. The guy is a musical genius, amazing. My wife and I went to see him play at Belfast last year and at Newcastle a few weeks ago. He is so talented, I love his music :D

Yeah he certainly impressed us back in the day, was one of the first people I saw who played a guitar single handed (no idea what the term is, but plucked and played with the same hand) and tapped out a beat with the other.
Was just having a hunt for some photos of him in our tiny local pub.

It's just called tapping. First time I seen it played that particular way (using the body of the guitar as a drum) was a Youtube video of Erik Mongrain called "air tap" (I think that was the songs name). Two handed tapping has been around forever. A lot of the math rock I listen to features it.

Edit: Video.
