Sam here, would love a link
How much were the Philips lights? I can only seem to find the bulbs.
God I need some Philips Hue in my life.
I can go about this two ways.
I either plan it accordingly.
Or just buy a couple, and go from there
I sampled my first one a couple of months ago and have kind of become addicted....
I started small, I'd seen other people using them. 'How cool!' I thought, 'Maybe I should give them ago. But do I really need them in my life? Hmmm....they cost a lot of money too, but the effect seems to make other people feel so good. Maybe I'll try them just once. I know, I'll get a little one and see what it's like...'
...and down the rabbit hole I went...
My first time was just a tiny one, I didn't want to go too big in case the experience was too overwhelming. I found a deal on the
Micro Colour Changing mood light for £20.
I mounted it behind my TV, booted it up with a caress of my finger on the touch sensitive slider built into the surface and away I went....floods of light backlit the wall behind my TV. With another gentle caress across the whole length of the slider an entire rainbow danced before my eyes. It was glorious.
I went to bed that night and left it on like a nightlight. The next night I powered it off when I went to bed normally. I was plunged into darkness....I didn't feel the same. I needed moar.....
A few weeks went buy before I decided I needed another hit. I lusted after the fancier versions on Amazon. Slowly my wishlist got bigger and bigger, but alas, my wallet didn't approve.
Then I discovered the cheap knock off ones from Aura Glow. 'Oh yes!', I thought,'Just what I need to get my fix without breaking the bank'. I wasn't sure of the quality, so I started small ordering
a single GU10. It really wasn't bad for the price, only downside is that the pure white is made by combining all the colours, so it was a dirty white, contaminated by hints of colour. It wasn't the good
****, like the Philips product, it's like it had been cut with fairy lights. Not great to read by, otherwise pretty good though.
For Christmas I wrote to Santa asking for the
LED strip version of the Aura Glow. It had great reviews on Amazon and at £30, was a fraction of the approx £170 Philips was charging for their pack with two LED strips and the bridge (
This is the link, but the large pack is out of stock at the mo, so the large pack option isn't available, just the single). I told Santa I had been good this year. The truth is, I was actually a little naughty. But he bought my story anyway and got me the lights!
They're awesome. Really good for the price. I have a video of me having a little rave with them going...not sure if I should post it though.
A few days later I was recovering from my off the hook Aura glow cheese and wine rave, when I began to crave another fix.
Unfortunately (for my wallet) I discovered that the
wireless bloom starter kit was on sale at £72. This is the one in my picture above, it comes with the two lights and a wireless bridge that connects to your router. You must then control the lights with a smart device. But it's cool, as there's no buttons on the lamps, which means you can tuck them away in hard to reach places and adjust them remotely (unlike the £20 one I got at the beginning, which I have to reach around to the back of the telly to adjust and turn on/off).
The bloom seems to be working great!
But then the story takes another dark turn...for my wallet....I found out today that the Philips LED strip lights were on sale. Discounted to £72 for the
Wireless Lighting Lightstrips Starter Kit (2 x LED Lightstrip Mood Lights, 1 Bridge) (Again, link only shows the single pack as the double is now out of stock)
And so we come to this evening. I'm down approx £300 over the last few months....my name is UberTiger....and I'm a coloured lighting addict...but boy is it good
**** and I can't wait to get some more
(And now play around with the if this then that (IFTTT) features to automatically turn them on and off when I leave or come home using geofencing)
