I've read many tales of airsoft guns shooting teeth out or the projectiles embedding in lips and things. They are not to be underestimated. :)

I would be extremely surprised if a standard BB gun could pierce skin let alone embed into skin.

I'm fairly confident I've been around airsoft more than most on here and played against players with some extremely high powered kit and only once has something pierced skin - that had a minimum engage distance of 25m (they were much less).

I can imagine they could crack a tooth if caught in the wrong place, yes.

I'm all for keeping them out of the way of children but a gun cabinet?!! Kids don't tend to have Playskool mig welders or Matel lock pick kits these days ;)

My friends or I don't play airsoft and two of them have had BB pellets embedded in the skin which required a Hospital visit.

One in the leg and one in the forehead (lol).

There's a fun thread about "most painful hits" on a popular airsoft forum. I can't link it as it probably has swearing in it, but I just dipped into it for a look and this photograph caught my eye:

Lots of posters mention blood and broken teeth.

Ive had BB's pierce skin. Not saying that it has been a hugh flesh wound but certainly dripping blood.

TM 870 (set to 6 shot) to the back of my arm from about 1-2m away in the Mall. Hurt like hell.

Probably due to the amount of BB's in a tight area as apposed to a single BB.

Red or green gas? Some sites won't let you run red gas.

Well playing an airsoft match I highly doubt you would be engaging anyone 1-2m away. Still the point remains I guess it's more common than I realised. I remember a mate got shot in the roof of the mouth (no idea how it happened - 10+mtrs away) and that drew blood.

I don't recall having blood drawn more than once and I used to always play in camo trousers and t-shirt. Plenty of blood blisters though. Worst ones are the gas Glock 17's with extra mag when going indoors as they were allowed to run fully auto - 20 rounds on your bare arm you know about it.

No idea about the gas, it wasn’t my gun. You can can generally use what you want at the Mall as long as its under 330. If you've played at the Mall, you'll know but there is a holding area where they chrono before games with lots of alleyways and doors.

You can have teams either side of multiple doors in those parts so being shot at 1-2m away is very common. Lots of strong abusive language once someone gets hit down those parts (not abusive to other players mind).

What you get when you play CQB.

Anyway, I have purchased a wardrobe. Go me!

Are you sure you're talking about airsoft BBs and not metal BBs?

Airsoft pellets are typically 6mm plastic BBs, whilst metal BBs are typically 4.5mm and weigh a heck of a lot more! They're for completely different applications though, with some using metal BBs in air rifles for pest control (not something I'd advise).

They were metal I think.

One was followed up by a Police visit.

Must have been either close range or tuned as most standard weapons don't run heavier ammo very well. Close range gas perhaps.

I used to run .3 and .35's on my tuned Mauser gas and it didn't run well on metal bbs.

You're talking about Airsoft guns being used to fire metal BBs though; I think the most likely thing is an air rifle...things like the Daisy lever action springers and el cheapo Crosman. They're common as muck and throw out metal BBs fast enough to pierce through tinnies. You can pick them up for around a tenner at car boots (for the really, really plastic things).
