Ahh Ned & Tank. Got little Dan Dan those for his Christmas present seeing as he is starting his dinosaur phase.

No idea man. Think the DS Lite was mini usb, so I imagine it's the same.

Still, if you got home to find you had no charger it would be pretty gutting.

They say many people will have a charger from previous models, and they only want to include items that are absolutely necessary.

Honestly shocked.

Check ads for the XL and it is plain on the box - no AC adapter!

Andi.

Wait... What!? It doesn't come with a charging cable?

It's just crazy, it's not mini usb, it's some skanky proprietary plug. They do the same with the 3DS also. I can imagine many children being disappointed on Christmas day when their DS dies after a few hours and having no charger.

The DSi charging cable is compatible with the 3DS and the New 3DS. But after spending a good hour looking for the charger I gave up and went in to town to buy a new one for £6.99 from Argos.

Ah well.. I'll have the last laugh with Gateway.

Imagine buying a Xbox or Playstation and it not coming with a power cable, a necessity for the product to function.

Unacceptable from Nintendo.

Their thinking is that you would already have an older one so already have a charger, but I agree, Lots of people don't and its a PITA.

Their logic is really flawed. Any normal person would either sell their old DS or give it away meaning they no longer have access to their old charger.

The reasoning behind it is also insane, the mentality that oh, we won't include one as surely you already have one.. I mean what?! I can imagine many people and parents get caught out with it.

Bare in mind, the one I have bought is an Australian import, as this new model is not available over here yet. The reasoning for that is because apparently we don't need a new model, yet. Ha! You got to laugh, really. But back on track, the box I got is exactly the same as the Australian's get with no cable, no charger. The 3DS which is the model being sold here in the UK doesn't include any means to charge it out of the box.

If they want to cut down on packaging size and bulk they should just include a USB cable with the correct plug on the end. The charging circuity is inside the console. It requires 4.6V and would work fine from a 5V USB outlet. I know because you can buy cables for it and have used them with a DS Lite and DSi. Better still, use a mini/mirco USB socket! Sony are the biggest proprietary scum bags out there, but even they have choose wisely and adopted the micro USB socket for their latest model of the Sony Vita.

Good old Nintendo.

Even if they just included a USB cable without a plug block that'd be significantly better. Well at least you can get generic ones off eBay for next to nothing. I've got so much USB plug blocks that I didn't need another.
