we done the same thing about 2 years ago and havent looked back. took out a subscription with netflix for films.

that's the main reason we scrapped it, had Netflix about a year and the kids always preferred watching what they wanted not waiting until its on. also took out amazon prime for the year which we can watch on the TV app itself (maybe get a fire stick on black Friday if they are dirt cheap)

I bought this kit of parts.

Which after six hours of squinting over a hot soldering iron was transformed into this.

It's an oven controlled crystal oscillator.

You can see from this angle that there are two boxes on the board, one each side.

They form the oven which is kept at a constant temperature.

To get an idea of scale, here it all is, partway through construction with a 5p piece alongside.

I like the way they've packaged the 4 transistors together on the oscillator to keep them at the same temp.

What do you need one of those for? Something to do with radio perhaps?

What sort of accuracy does it have? Can't be that good using all through hole components.
