Two drives failing at a time... Happened to me with those abysmal 3tb seagates

First one failed, second failed on rebuild :( before they were even 18 months old.

Reminds me of the Maxtor days - I remember going through two in a matter of weeks.

Late Christmas present to myself, Pi2 with a OneNineDesign case (brilliantly made bit of kit!) Also 32gb+ Samsung Evo microSD. Massively quicker than my old model B.

What have you tried with the pi2 so far? I've been thinking about getting one to run as a htpc, pulling movies etc off a nas. I read the original couldn't really manage a full HD movie, but I couldn't find much info on the 2.

I run OpenElec on mine, runs great, to be fair it was fine on the model B as well however the menus are much quicker now.

Looks interesting!

Out of interest how would you say it compares with (say) a Raspberry Pi Zero?

Just had a brief look at the Zero and CHIP is a ready to use computer as it already has the OS, storage memory, wifi and Bluetooth built in. Being a new product CHIP won't yet have the support that Pi has but that will change.

There will be more extras to come. It looks like it will have a good future and can't fail at that price.

possibility but not a common occurrence. besides thats why i said AND backed up :)

Common occurrence with those Seagate 3TBs... have to be the worst hard drives to have been released to market in ~10 years... even Seagate knew it before they were released... that's why they reduced their usual 3/5 year warranties down to only 1 for that drive.

First two died in less than 18 months, next one at 24, then 30 and the last one went recently at about 36 months. I have one left of the 6 I bought at the same time... but it's only working in a raid array that's happy enough to lose all its data.

Same array as the one that just failed, 3TB WD Red was delivered this morning to replace it :)

But I won't be able to do anything with it until I'm back in France next weekend.

Bit of an expensive month recently....

1tb PS4

YAMAHA RXV679 av receiver

Mission MX4 speakers

I've gone from having virtually nothing downstairs to some new kit to keep me occupied. I'll try and sort a better picture.

I may have bought even more fireworks today... they were trying to clear stock for NYE... so I got some really good fireworks at 25% normal local price... which is half what you'd pay online in the UK to begin with.

No pictures atm as they're still in the boot :p

OpenElec user here but don't have a NAS yet so set up my storage HDD on my PC as a network drive and set that up on the PI.

Works well, haven't found a movie yet that doesn't play but there is one specific TV series I have that jitters and stalls, I think its due to the format.

Aside from that, great but of kit
