Actually that isn't why since wide aperture photos have been taken since the early 1900s, but this debate has been going on every buying stuff thread so no point digging it up again as it's insufferable
A couple of months ago my daughters mate was telling her about looking at photographers work for her wedding and every one of them had out of focus photographs. I told her to tell her mate that if she is paying she tells the photographer that she wants all photos in focus - easy peasy. A bit like booking a Disco, tell them what you want and leave the stobes & dry ice at home.
