IMPORTANT news about watching F1 on sky this season

Got a bonkers offer from sky (entertainment extra+ HD, unlimited broadband, weekend calls) for the cost of line rental for 12 months (14.50*12 = 174) but the downside is no F1 channel without subbing to Sports.

Now a sad monkee :(

Ok it appears the rumours of HD pack viewers losing the channel are gaining pace; this thread on Sky's help forum suggests serious confusion on behalf of the customer services department and their twitter feed.
A tweet suggesting that as of yesterday Sky F1 would disappear from non Sports customers has since been removed but I'm less and less confident that we're going to retain the channel:

http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Pro...-losing-any-channels-when-moving/td-p/1253880

Can anyone at home (who's not on the Sports package but HD only) check to see if you still have access to the channel.

MissChief, as our contact in the know have you heard anything about this confusion?

Seems the guy in that thread has moved from an old package structure to a new package structure, and lost F1 because of it. His issue is that he was told nothing would go, not that they have randomly just removed F1.

If you are on a package, you will stay on that package until you change it. My parents recently changes their Sky packages from something they signed up to 10 years ago. The packages they were on were long gone, but they were still on them.

Basically, if you have F1 now and don't change anything, you will keep F1. If you change any of your package you fall into their new structure and will loose F1 unless you have Sports.

This is not new, this is how it was explained when they first shuffled the packages about.

I can't see them just removing it, you would have a get out clause to break contract.

As above looks like he changed package which is how they will do it.
You revert back to normal price after your first two months and ask for a price drop, they stick you on a new 12month contract and you get the new t&cs eventually basically no one will be on the old package.

Surely this only applies to those signing up new or changing contract?
It doesn't help attract new customers or anyone on the fence.

Guessing most of you lot who use the f1 forum have sky f1

I get that - it's the discussion that was had earlier in the year. They shuffled around the HD pack and removed F1 for new subscribers or those changing packages in the process.

This is the worrying bit from the Sky Forum Thread linked above :
"As of September Sky Sports F1 will only be available with Sky Sports package and Sky sports F1 HD you will require Sky Sports and Sky HD to receive this."

I ain't paying for Sky Sports to watch F1. End of. Someone else can finance the overpaid footballists.

Is that a line from an official comms from Sky? As it constitutes a change of contract and I certainly haven't been notified of it.

Edit: Just tested SSF1HD on SkyGo and its still there.

The only official bit of it appeared to be contact from the customer support group, both on the phone to some users and a tweet that stated that the channel was unavailable from September 1st.

Purely speculation but it suggests to me that customer services were given a heads-up about the intent to change the channel package and then jumped the gun by tweeting it.

Whether the retraction of the tweet means they're reconsidering, who knows, but the interesting extra bit of info comes from someone who has noticed F1 trademark info at the bottom of the 'Extra Channels' webpage (like MUTV and Chelsea TV).

Hopefully, if the change with subscription terms happens, they are considering adding it into the extra channel option meaning you could subscribe just to the F1 channel and not to all of the sports channels; still not ideal but better than the whole sports package.

Being a stand alone channel is only good news if its not really expensive.

Either way, they cannot impose channel changes on existing customers who make no changes to their package. Not without prior notice anyway (I imagine the T&Cs are 30 days in writing).

This came up at work today and was rebuffed from on high and anyone who has the Legacy HD pack but not Sports will confirm they still have the F1.

There are NO plans to change the eligibility of the F1 channel for existing customers who still have the 'Legacy' HD pack.

My sky is going on the 11th. BBC coverage is good enough for me and im fed up for paying £50 + for just F1. The misses watches no more than usual freeview channels.

What the hell? I was watching sky sports f1 about 2 hours ago, and now I have just switched the f1 on and it is telling me I don't have access to it? Wtf???

Edit, I managed to watch the race. I changed the channel and went back and it was fine. Odd.
