Thats why i'm asking, was it intended to be a joke or not, and was the op aware when it was posted that it might wind people up?
 
Oh good Lord.....how the hell did this turn into an argument? The guy stuck a pair of sunglasses on his avatar.....now, I realise that to some people this may well be the 8th Deadly Sin but those people need to take a couple of steps back from this thread and go do something else.

I would laugh, honestly I would. I'm not saying it to negate your point on purpose, I would laugh at the joke. Perhaps its my sense of humour, but I find stuff like that funny.

I'm sure if a don wanted to take the **** properly, he'd delete all our postcounts or something, or ban a few random people for no reason.

But all he's done is have a little joke about the custom avatar request, it's a shame that some people took it so seriously and started throwing toys about.

You annoy me a lot, so I'm precluding myself from your me and the rest of the forum blanket generalization. I don't care about Avatars or sigs, neither should you. It's not the be all and end all of being on the internet, how old are you?... 12?

Only a couple of people are bothered by this AFAICT, You and Malc.

FFS, are you so infantile that you have to throw your toys out of the pram when something happens that you don't like? Grow up.

Anybody laughing at this is being lambasted by you for being a brown nose and being accused of not having their own opinion. So which is it? We can disagree with your view, or we cant?

Maybe i have a dodgy sense of humour then, but i can't tell if this was meant to be a joke or meant to wind people up, that why i'm asking, which is it?
 
No offence to Otacon but this thread is the very definition of trolling isn't it. Designed to provoke a predictable response.

If it wasn't a Don I would RTM it.

If Otacon had known it would cause this reaction he would not have done it, I am sure.

See, now if he deletes this thread, DON ABUSE, if he locks it, DON ABUSE, if he edits someones post DON ABUSE.

It is a lose lose situation, but it most certainly was a joke, as its just some aviators on an existing sig, if he had changed to a proper custom avatar then yes, it would be a little annoying.

Remmeber as a Don he could change his status, avatar, post with immunity from other dons edits.... I see no abuse of power at all, just a very funny joke that some people have compeltely missed. :)

I posted this in reponse to how serious the other avatar thread became. I wanted to do something daft to remind people that, at the end of the day, it's a forum ffs. You're defined by your posts, the rest is vapourware.

Don't assume that because you're the mod, you're automatically right, though.

Let me be clear about a couple of things - I don't give a hoot about how many avatars there are, or what they are. I would like the option to turn their display off, simply because it tidies up my screen, and I can't see why an option has been removed that only affects my local display. If I elect to turn them off, it doesn't affect anybody else. So, I achieve it a different way and, as a result, all other graphics and logos get removed too.

But, on the subject of what avatars there are, I'm militantly indifferent. If people want to have avatars, I don't see the harm in it, but it leaves me stone cold. They are, in my view, peurile.

So .... my point. I saw straight away that this thread was supposed to be a joke, a light-hearted jibe. I don't question the intent. I do question the judgement, though, because the nature of it implies a sense of condescernding superiority. That is what I find a bit offensive, not the "joke". And, as it's clear a fair few others also find it the same, I question the judgement behind a moderating (or I assume, Admin) involvement in it.

As mods, or moreover, admins, I don't question the right to do if it you want. But I do question the wisdom of it. It was, in my view, a mistake.

I make no apologies for it. If I cant enjoy moderating and have a little fun from time to time, then I wont do it. Regardless, best knocked on the head.
