Hi Guys

Following the amazing success of Asus's Black Diamond Cable and FTTC networking range, we are pleased to announce the latest addition to their ultra high end black diamond range.

The DSL-N55U includes ADSL modem capabilities and revolutionises the black diamond range giving ADSL users a real high end solution.

Asus DSL-N55U Black Diamond Dual Band Wireless- N Gigabit @ £117.98 inc VAT

As the first ASUS N600 simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi ADSL router, the DSL-N55U provides a stylish design, sophisticated features, and easy setup alongside supreme wireless and wired networking for the home.
Two USB 2.0 ports allow the DSL-N55U to share printing and scanning functions on a network, and operate as high-speed NAS (Network Attached Storage) when an external storage device is connected. It is fully DLNA certified, and can act as a media server and home entertainment center. Any device, such as a PS3, iPhone, or Eee Pad can directly stream music and video wirelessly through the DSL-N55U.
For wired networking, four Gigabit Ethernet ports provide excellent capacity. Support for up to 300,000 data sessions means the DSL-N55U has around 20 times the networking capacity of other home routers. Data transmission stays fast even when the router is under heavy load, and easy-to-use QoS settings assure that important traffic - VoIP calls or online gaming - isn't adversely affected by large file downloads.

• Integrated home gateway with independent CPUs for modem and router
• Dual-band Wi-Fi delivers up to 600Mbps in bandwidth
• 4x Gigabit Ethernet ports provide enhanced wired network performance
• Auto-detecting ADSL connection with CD/manual-free setup
• Finest P2P experience via 300,000 concurrent data sessions
• File sharing, printer sharing, and iPad charging using multi-functional twin USB ports

Only £117.98 inc VAT.

What's the importance/relevance of broadcom? Genuine question, I don't know the difference between one network chipset fabricator and the next.

Most uk exchanges use Broadcom chipset in the DSLAM, which means maximum compatibility and highest sync rate possible for your line.

Edit after looking at the specs I'm 99% certain it uses the BCM chipset

I have heard back from Asus this morning, they cannot confirm the chipset to me directly but are enquiring with their technical staff about it.

How would this compare to the Billion 7800N wireless modem/router?

I'm after a new modem/router and was set on the Billion until I saw this thread.

Which is the best please?

Edward

the billions are really good products but we have found that product support for the asus products are much better and this includes RMA terms

this translates to a better overall deal for the customer

especially when the products capabilities are very similar :)

Thanks for the quick reply rjkoneill, but in terms of functionality and performance which would you say is better?

Do the Billions have many problems then, to be concerned about RMA terms?

Many thanks,

Edward

I wouldn't say so no.

in terms of functionality, you may be able to tweak the Billion products a little more but the Asus products have solid featuresets and are generally a little cheaper for something which essentially does the same job

Is this router compatible with ADSL2/2+? I can't see anywhere where it says it is or isn't.

I'm still trying to decide whether to go with this or the Billion.

Many thanks,

Edward
