Inception - July 16th

Possibly clears up the 'kicks' a wee bit.

Still probably a flaw that wax head didn't get kicked into the van as he was already awake in the hotel and hence present for the first kick which the others missed since they were still asleep.

watched this last night with the gf. I thought it was brilliant, one of the best films in a while. Not sure the gf enjoyed it quite as much as I did. Very Matrix-esque. The only thing I didn't like was the final scene with the spinning coin. So unnecessary. I hate it when films do that.

i agree with you entirely except for the ending, open endings for movies are better than crappy scripted endings anyday, i think the idea is to let the viewers make up their own minds on the matter rather than telling them whats happened and expecting it all to make sense. it either A) fell over and he was infact in reality B) it kept on spinning so it wasn't reality or C) it fell over but since it was his 'dream' the rules to totems doesn't apply, since he would conciously know how heavy it was, how it acted, etc.

but all in all best movie for the last couple of years, blows the terribly underwhelming Avatar out of the water for me (since i think Avatar is most over-rated movie in many many years, barring maybe Titanic which was terrible), think its gonna win some awards, maybe everything Avatar style? :)

Predictable, drawn out and daft. Entertaining though.

Not sure why people are saying it's awfully confusing and complex. It was incredibly obvious what was going to happen and awfully simple to follow.

6.5 or 7 out of 10 for me.
Won't watch a second time.

reckon the whole 'predictable, drawn out and daft' is one of the biggest loads of tosh i have heard about a movie in ages, sure it wasn't complicated but im guessing to the majority of the movie going public it was a bit hard to follow. but then i guess we're all entitled to our own opinion on things, i mean i get grief constantly for saying Avatar was a giant load of rubbish..:D

imo That's more to do with the subject matter than the film. If you understand the concept of dreams within dreams, within dreams then the film itself isn't overly complicated. It's very linear, bar the odd flashback or so and the start about Saito.
Different concept != good film.
Matrix (1) took an interesting concept but had far better execution.

Was there really any stellar acting in Inception apart from bits from Fischer and Mal?
Was the score really that great other than the main theme being played at every important part to create tension (similar to US horror films)?

They could have really pushed the film, but limited themselves to what was a heist flick.

For the record i thought Avatar was technically great but other than that just normal. Again people are being blind sided by concepts/tech they are unfamiliar with, that mask the actual film itself. The imdb scores make amusing reading and seeing what films it currently ranks higher than.. saying that most new films on imdb do similarly as well.

I enjoyed the film - didnt think the concept was that complicated or difficult to follow - the twist was pretty obvious, if you can really call it a twist.

Perhaps I was over-hyped, gonna see it again tomorrow so lets see how it does on the second read-through

Deffo a well deserved 8/10 - the film showed the normal Nolan polish, but lacked depth and perhaps the acting was adequate if anything...

Antar - know if thats a proper poster?!?

EDIT: Just remembered the bit I hated - why were the enenies so incompetent at shooting accurately? Thought I was in a 80s blockbuster action film...
EDIT2: Marky - stop posting before me - you pre-Stalker

when leo and his wife are in limbo he says they get old toghether, but then when the train kills them they are still young? also if the train killing them brings them back, why didnt they do it in the first place? also why does leo put the inception in his wifes head what was the point?

also how does leo get from the third level with his dead wife to the 4th level with saito without the machine. how do they both finally get out? if they kill each other then why didnt they do tht in the first place?

Really enjoyed it. One huge plot hole that's bothering me but will let it slide for what was otherwise a unique and original film. Nice change from the stale cinema we've had over the last few years.

Here is an extract of something I posted in the "Lucid dreaming" thread in GD weeks ago...

So you'll understand why this film had such an effect on me...

Also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_awakening

I've had a lucid dream, and I was scared ****. NEVER do i want to experience that again. The feeling of being trapped on not wakening up is not nice, and then realising you have woken up twice from 2 dreams.

I didnt even know what it was until i googled it

SPOILER

1) Not sure why they didnt attempt to die straight away - guess it might have been something to do with the fact they werent really in the dream world but in limbo and it was a very new experience for them. Leo had to plant the idea as his wife was quite content in the limbo world, which is why she locked away her totem. Think the whole looking young part at the train was just to carry the story along...

2) Bit confused what you mean - Leo was already in limbo with his wife and the architect bird before Saito died and effectively joined them. Due to differing timings between the levels it was gonna take time for him to pop up. Still confused why Saito was old and Leo wasnt when they meet in Limbo, especially as he gets there before him (though at the start of the film it appears he was washed up). Perhaps the length of time experienced between people can be different in limbo...

The start of the film was the end of the film

*SPOILER*

I think he was still dreaming at the end because it didn't stop spinning.

Reminds me a bit of those classic time traveller incidents where someone goes back in time and changes things drastically, realises things are more screwed up than ever, then keeps making changes until eventually they get back to some semblance of normallity and think "close enough!" and leave it like that.

He probably thought the reality he was in was close enough to normal reality so even if it was a dream he didn't care and was just happy to be back home with his kids.

On an unrelated note the recent films i've seen with DiCaprio in have all been brilliant (Inception, Shutter Island, the Departed). Bravo :)
