Inconsiderate & slow drivers

I drive a heavily speed monitored company car so I'm usually the one people are tailgating but I do occasionally get stuck behind people going slower which is frustrating.

That said I'm a nightmare in car parks since they started enforcing the speed limits, driving at 5mph is ridiculously slow and I'm sure I'm going to get hit soon.

Not an excuse but some of these slow people might be in a similar situation and don't want to go over the limit due to receiving an earful from management / HR.

Forgive me ..but.. unless you have the documentation to upload to prove this I don't believe it. It's been discussed often on forums online and no one has ever in the history of the internet been able to upload evidence of getting done by a speed camera for going just a couple of mph over the limit.

When a driver claims to have been done by a speed camera for going a couple of mph over the limit it's a bit like when someone claims to have seen the loch ness monster

Cheers

I don't have any documentation to show you, it was many years ago and that particular camera I linked to has been notorious for getting people going going a few mph over 30 in the past. Things may be different with it now, but its reputation lives on and nobody tests it any more.

At least three people I know who visit from out of town have been caught by it for similar ridiculous numbers as well.

With all due respect, I don't really care if someone does not believe me without any evidence! You have just my word, and it is something I've mentioned in other threads over the years before as well.

I appreciate that and mean no offence .. but still no one in the history of the internet seems to have EVER uploaded any evidence of being done by a camera for going a couple of mph of the limit, even when they claim to have just received it through the post and asked to scan and upload evidence.

Cheers

Or it could be because (almost all) speedos overread by a bit so you are actually doing, say, 30mph at a speedo reading of 34mph

Your right and I've tested mine and it overreads by around 3mph, ...I've lost count how many times I've gone through a camera at 35mph so that's 32mph actual. I have faith in the home office guidelines of 10%+2. Basically I don't panic and brake when I look down and check my speed at the camera if it's below that threshold. Likewise If a police car is behind me and my speedo reads 35mph (actual 32) I continue at that speed and I NEVER get pulled over.

Cheers

It does happen. I did a speed awareness course last year. I was caught going the fastest, 43 in a 30. Slowest person who got caught was 32 in a 30.

Technically 32 is the minimum because that is needed to allow room for equipment tolerances. But the official guidelines say 35.

I think you could probably get a ticket for 32mph over-turned if you tried though.

I don't get the deal with people who drive without a licence plate on the front of the car, and instead shove it on the dash basically obscuring it. Pretty sure that's illegal.

The ones I hate are

.People who drive 40mph onto a slip road, particularly when lorries are approaching.
.People who leave indicating pass a lorry to the last second, knowing that they had loads of room before then doing 60/70mph in the right hand lane.
.People on the motorway who do not give way to people entering from the slip road and continue to poodle along a 60mph when the right lane is clear.
.Braking when every car approaches on single carriageway roads, slight bend brake, see a car brake, then when tjapproach a roundabout and it's clear, they stop and check, then poodle along.
.Drivers on a motorway doing 50mph and you need to indicate off the motorway and your stuck behind this driver.

Why should they? Traffic already on the motorway has priority.

Joining the motorway (rule 259)
Rule 259
Joining the motorway. When you join the motorway you will normally approach it from a road on the left (a slip road) or from an adjoining motorway. You should

  • give priority to traffic already on the motorway
  • check the traffic on the motorway and match your speed to fit safely into the traffic flow in the left-hand lane

Again showing your inconsiderate nature to other drivers.

You really must be a popular fellow. Hope to God I never encounter you on the road.

You're right, they don't have to, but wouldn't it be considerate if they did?

Yeah, how dare I follow the rules, like the inconsiderate ******* I am....

OK, so I have priority and traffic entering my lane is supposed to match my speed, yet I have to give way to them just because you say so....? OK. Fine. I'm sure that will go GREAT when you're behind me and I am considerately giving way to incoming traffic, just like you say... I'm sure you'll refrain from bitcvhing about people slowing down to accomodate drivers that cannot match speed properly, like they're supposed to...
Or maybe I should change lanes, since I'm sure you'll be in Lane Two and will start kicking off about having to move around me pulling out, now?

No, try reading my post again...

He said the middle lane is empty, I'm not sure how moving over is inconveniencing anyone.

I had a van blowing and flashing at me for taking the left hand exit of a roundabout... from the left hand lane!

He then proceeded to try and overtake me, from the middle lane (this was a single lane slip road I exited on to), and nearly put his van into the barrier trying to pass when I was already ahead.

Of course cue the obligatory tailgating and flashing all the way down the slip road, until I got a clear bit of road and opened the taps.

I don't understand how you can get angry at someone taking the correct lane to exit a roundabout, when you're cutting across lanes?

Nothing says I have to, though, does it?
The whole point of the slip road is for traffic entering to get up to speed and so NOT force me into changing lanes... but you expect me to do this anyway, just because?

Which is the whole point of his post, "just because... you're being an inconsiderate *****"
