Indian Grand Prix 2011, Buddh International Circuit - Race 17/19

Hmm, its going to be close on penalty for Button, but that last replay showed a yellow flashing board in that sector, where he did a personal best. Put it this way, it would be harsh but Hamilton would get done for that.

It looked like he lifted off as he saw the yellow but that may have just been the POV being in slow mo

So, the boards are automated... So when the board was green for Hamilton and Perez, they were correct and the marshal waving the flags was wrong as the track had been declared clear.

So the 3 place penalties... Utter rubbish?

Ultimately don't they judge it on the sector the crash is in, and going purple in it is bad?

He was always going to lift going into the corner anyway so, its hard to know.

Personally I think they have to make a rule where you have to slow down, but IF you have to then you get another lap to replace it, though that won't always work either because of fuel they run in quali.

It'd be harsh if he was given a penalty for doing a quick sector given his positioning relative to the accident.

Yeah, well first time I was reacting to the time and commentary which didn't mention how close he was to the incident, wasn't sure where Button was relative to the crash. Its close, it would be harsh, but they've been harsh on many drivers throughout the season, none more so than Hamilton.

But the thing is he was going flying past the crash corner then along the shortish straight with a yellow light he slowed down (before he would normally for the corner) then at the corner he seemed to speed up again because there was a green light. Can't really penalise him for going too fast in a yellow zone if its before he's seen the yellow

Lewis admitted using DRS in the yellow flag zone though :)

Really hope the mandatory use of both compounds will get thrown out, RBR are the only team who can extract performance from the hard compound. Just further extends their advantage.

Vettel will walk it tomorrow.

They need to scrap these rubbish gimmicky tyres completely and give the drivers something they can race in rather than having to tiptoe around the track.

Only person benefitting from these rubbish tyres is Vettel because he has the qualifying pace and then everyone else (apart from Steady Eddie :p) destroys their tyres pushing to catch him.

Whet yellow flag zone? According to the FIA's own data, the track was clear and all was good. It' was just that one marshall waving the flag?

It doesn't make a blind bit of difference whether the marshall should have been waving the flag. He was. You obey the flags. It's one of the most fundamental principles of motor racing.

But the lights are also flags, if there is a yellow flag it appears on the MES dash - there was no yellow light on the dash or by the track.

So which was correct? ;)

I wish hamilton would get over this split, atleast in public. The constant sad face even after doing really well is all a bit much. His face again for the pictures of the top 3 with a face like a slapped ****.

It's not like he's going to struggle for a better replacement!

I hope he gets a win tomorrow, I really think he needs it. Should be yet another Vettel wlak in the park.

5 grid penalty for Karthikeyan after impeding Schumi. So despite both HRT's out qualifying Virgin they'll start from the back as per usual. :p

Jenson Button has escaped a penalty during Q3 and will start from 4th on the grid. He was addressed by the stewards after the Massa shunt.
