Indian Grand Prix 2011, Buddh International Circuit - Race 17/19

I was very suprised Massa got the penalty if I'm honest, I couldn't quite believe it. The way he looks over several times to see Lewis there is rather :\ though.

Massa admits he knew Lewis was there (he does not lie like Lewis in Japan), but he also knew Lewis did not have the corner and was offline, so he assumed Lewis would get out of it as is normal, but Lewis could not (as Herbert said) and at that speed its impossible to look and see where Lewis is while in the corner.

But most on here are F1 racers and know it all :)

When the TV footage was replayed so quickly showing Massa looking over, I'm not surprised he would acknowledge he knew Lewis was there, but the rest of that is the usual 'lie' of not admitting responsibility.. Lewis does it, Massa does it, hell they all generally do it.. only when banged to rights do you see more honesty usually..

The penalty was given during the race, before Massa had any chance to state his case, I am glad most are puzzled by the decision though, shows that in general F1 drivers and pundits are not totally blinkered :)

The footage in Japan showed Lewis looking as well but still he said see no evil hear no evil :) and they bought it. I wonder why Fernando Alonso was not given a penalty for turning in on Jenson in Canada or Jenson turning into Lewis on a straight.... just another reason why the FIA remain inconsistent.

For me this is the biggest problem with the whole thing, not just the latest incident, but the sport in general.

In other sports it's fairly simple; in football if you foul another player you're going to give away a free kick and possibly get a yellow card/sent off.

We all know what sort of foul will receive what sort of punishment and while some refs might be more lenient than others, as a whole it's pretty consistent.

You would have thought that a sport with as many rules as F1 could agree on fixed penalties for certain infractions and/or agree that in a sport like racing, contact is inevitable and maybe they just accept it.

If F1 wants to remain a World Championship they can't.

Yes they can. How do you think other sports do it?
F1 will have to change it's name from F1 to(put a name here) but that's it.

It's real name is "FIA Formula One World Championship" just remane it..done no more FIA.

I know how about FOTA Racing World Championship :D works for me.

And use different circuits due to contracts. Would love it to happen. But it's never going to.
And would it be any better anyway. Replace one lot of muppets with another.

The FIA are the only Motorsport governing body who can regulate events titled 'World Championships'.

Really? or do you mean just motor sport?
As the IAAF\Badminton sod it to many to list have a look http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_championship only 4 listed for the FIA

Call me crazy but I suspect from the way he said:

I would imagine he means motorsport and not every single sporting world championship ever conceived from athletics to badminton.

AH so with the word MOTORSPORT in it...ok fair play...so it can be FOTA's World Series or World Championship car racing :)
There is the American Championship car racing which has nothing to do with the FIA..anyway all they need to do is change the name..done

Yeah, there are some specific criteria that need to be met for a Motorsport series to be classed as a World Championship. One of them is that they have to be regulated by the FIA.

Anything governed by a different body can't be classed as a World Championship.

Isn't FOTA constantly on the verge of falling apart? It isn't really an official organisation and consists of a bunch of teams who are constantly threatening to leave.

I doubt FOTA would be capable of stringing together more than a few races, without things completely falling apart.

FOTA would need a great salesman, with charisma and a big name to attract race track organisers to switch from the FIA F1 championship to the FOTA World Series.
