The War Z servers offline following database hack, statement inside
The War Z has been taken offline by publisher OP Productions after both the user forum and the game’s database were hacked this morning.

The publisher posted a statement on the matter, stressing that no payment information was left exposed by the attack.

Action is being taken to address the matter, “We have already taken a number of steps to increase security and are continuing to work with external advisors and investigators to identify and implement measures to minimize the chance of this happening in the future.

“The data accessed included email addresses used to log-in to the forum, forum passwords which we encrypt, email addresses used to log-in to the game, encrypted game passwords as well as in-game character names and the IP addresses from which players log-in to the forum and to the game.

“If you posted other information to the forum it is likely that such data was accessed as well. We do not collect the names or addresses of our gamers so that information was not impacted unless you posted it on the forum. We are investigating whether additional information may have been obtained.”

The publisher is urging all players to change their passwords immediately.

This isn’t the first time the controversial game has been hacked. It happened back in January too. It seems as if many gamers are still unhappy with the game’s close likeness to Dean Hall’s DayZ and its heavy monetisation.

What’s your take?

Thanks Eurogamer.

"change their password"? how? Have you tried to visit the ACCOUNT section from the game client? there is nothing there. I changed my forum password for all the good that did, the forums are still down since 3 days?

hehe losers!

Wow the hackers have caused a right mess,Happerpoint tell us to change out password but still have not told us if they have fully got back control of their servers/forums so we could change out password and the hackers could still probably get access to it.

Ive never known a game to be this bad in terms of its dev team, and lack of security etc.

And another wave of refunds in 5... 4...

I'm surprised some sue-happy American hasn't brought a class action suit against Happlesspoint yet.

Yes its dire.. I would happily delete my game and forum account at this point if I had the option. So glad I didn't renew the server lol

this is why I use a different password for each game that needs it. I have a notepad file with game names with passwords as I would never remember them. That way if it gets hacked all my other stuff is safe, as for WarZ they can hack my passwprd and take the game for all I care lol.

So who is actually in control of the game servers atm?...the hackers or HP?

HP if they pull the plug on the servers which it sounds like :D

TBH I'm not condoning hacking but they brought all this on themselves by their own greed and shoddy game development. If any game developer / publisher ever needs an example of how NOT to do things then this will be the one!

They should just sell the intellectual property to a proper game developer who can give it the attention it deserves... perhaps EA would be interested

dlknight - grabs his coat and ducks to avoid the obvious hate about EA ;)

Reckon it's all BS, they know how bad the game is messed up so pulled this stunt themselves to put the game to sleep, this way they can blame the hackers and move onto the next cluster **** project. ;)

The money being made from server rentals and in game GC would state otherwise. There are still quite a few private servers and whilst the game only cost £12 I bet I have put about £30 into through GC.

They must be raking it in with skeleton staff with a low overhead, to can it now would be madness, plus they aren't stupid, how many would buy a new game from them right now after the sham with their current release.

If i were in charge of this grubby lot, id be keeping everything ticking over until at least June when a lot of people are going to watch World War Z and doubtless be subjected to an advertising blitz about the game War Z. There are plenty of people who will play this kaka off the back of that, pay through the nose for it and be glad to do so. Then id let it go a couple of months later.

i'm still playing it but i'm on a private server so not bothered at all by hackers.

yea just played it again this evening. what a disaster! till i can get access to a private server again this will be going on the back burner.

out of curiousity what are spawns like, still no ammo dropping?
