The hackers who claimed respsonibility said they are going to release the server files lol.
Interesting - closed instances of Warz would actually make me vaguely interested in this.

The War Z servers offline following database hack, statement inside
The War Z has been taken offline by publisher OP Productions after both the user forum and the game’s database were hacked this morning.
The publisher posted a statement on the matter, stressing that no payment information was left exposed by the attack.
Action is being taken to address the matter, “We have already taken a number of steps to increase security and are continuing to work with external advisors and investigators to identify and implement measures to minimize the chance of this happening in the future.
“The data accessed included email addresses used to log-in to the forum, forum passwords which we encrypt, email addresses used to log-in to the game, encrypted game passwords as well as in-game character names and the IP addresses from which players log-in to the forum and to the game.
“If you posted other information to the forum it is likely that such data was accessed as well. We do not collect the names or addresses of our gamers so that information was not impacted unless you posted it on the forum. We are investigating whether additional information may have been obtained.”
The publisher is urging all players to change their passwords immediately.
This isn’t the first time the controversial game has been hacked. It happened back in January too. It seems as if many gamers are still unhappy with the game’s close likeness to Dean Hall’s DayZ and its heavy monetisation.
What’s your take?
Thanks Eurogamer.
So who is actually in control of the game servers atm?...the hackers or HP?
Reckon it's all BS, they know how bad the game is messed up so pulled this stunt themselves to put the game to sleep, this way they can blame the hackers and move onto the next cluster **** project.
The money being made from server rentals and in game GC would state otherwise. There are still quite a few private servers and whilst the game only cost £12 I bet I have put about £30 into through GC.
They must be raking it in with skeleton staff with a low overhead, to can it now would be madness, plus they aren't stupid, how many would buy a new game from them right now after the sham with their current release.
i'm still playing it but i'm on a private server so not bothered at all by hackers.
