Opinions on Inline skating?

I have just bought a pair of blades off a friend and I am now learning how to skate. Any body on here skate or has?

Any hints or tips? Meant to be going to Rampworx next week but don't really know how to skate yet

I think it's fun - never really learned how to stop though. I tended to head for the nearest lampost/fat man (added cushion for the fall).

Just practice I guess until you get the hang of it!

I used to have a pair of Bauers ( i think thats how its spelt ) when i was much younger, that progressed to a skateboard but havent touched either for about 4 years now :(

Should really get back into boarding

I used to blade quite a bit as a kid. I really want a pair now :(

Yeah me too! Kinda want a go now as well.. the last time I did it, I'd just moved abroad and was skating around the compound.. some guy looked like he was heading over in my direction, I assumed to introduce himself. I was so busy watching what he was up to, I smacked square into a wall and fell back on my bum. Turns out it was my dad's new boss.. smoooth.

learnt ages ago, still got my vintage Roces Fifth Elements, still skate very occasionally but takes a lot more effort now then i ever remember it doing lol

OP you would be wise to avoid ramps and parks of that sort untill you have the basics down at the very least, ( moving, stopping, etc etc )

Well I was thinking that but he asked if I was coming whilst I was drunk. I said yes so can't go back on it now.

I was kind of going for the swimming approach, jump in the deep end.

Well I won't be drunk when I go.

Might just try going around the block or something. I tend to be pretty good at balancing so I think I should be ok.

As a curious addition I am truly shocking at rollerskating, but can blade and iceskate quite well. One would think it would be easier :o

Blades are much more fun to get around on then a Skateboard, just learn to comfortably get around and don't do any stupid ****, honestly its not worth it, you don't look cool and you end up breaking/dislocating bones ;)

Wish I had some blades again.

Well one of my mates has a skateboard and I didn't enjoy it. To much faffing. Managed to do a pop shove it apparently. Thats what he said ha!

I won't be doing anything to stupid. I am used to being injured a lot from Judo and as a result I can fall quite well.

I'd agree not to go to any skateparks until you're pretty nimble on the street in general, the ramps are a whole other beast.

I spent 3 years skating and still have my original Razor Murda's; those were the days.

I realise in hindsight that it actually kept me extremely fit and wish I'd never stopped as my joints just couldn't take it after a year out!
