** INSANE SAMSUNG 1440P 27" MONITOR 24HR DEAL!! **

I really liked the idea of going for a 2.5k screen and love the look of this Samsung hence ordering it. However going down to 1080 from 1200 won't be a huge step back but you're right in that it will take a little time to adjust. The huge pro for the LG is going ultra wide vs the drop in pixel in hight. My usage is 80/90% games and then throw a small 22inch 1080p screen in for any productivity work I do which will be working with a VM lab at the most...

Almost feels like I have answered my own question. Go with the LG 21:9 2560x1080, plus it's a very smart looking screen.

I know 1440p will run fine for games but the 21:9 may not. Game wise, I'm Total War (Empire, Napoleon, Shugun 2 + Fall of Samurai), DayZ, Hitman, Company of Heros 1+2, Metro and FarCry 3. Also going BattleField 4 but play BF2 atm (yes I know, but i love it)

***Edit - Think I'm staying with the Samsung 1440p*** (Always changing my mind!! basically I can't be bothered with patching games to support 21:9)

It's a bit perplexing that the Samsung S27A850TS doesn't appear to be on the Samsung website (unless it's hidden from the search engine) only the S27A850T.

I'm going give it another few days & if there's no update, cancel my order.
Poor show that no OC staff have commented recently just to confirm things.

I'm struggling to find recent and decent reviews of this monitor? Has anyone found one? Is it a new release or an old one, as questioned above? I've only found reviews and mentions from back in 2012!! Makes me wonder if this is old stock that's been uncovered or something, hence the price, so no idea what the manufacture date of this will be.

There's some reviews on the US version of a competitor site..

But you are right they don't seem to be sold anymore which probably means they are EOL. Not that it's a bad thing as it usually means a bargain price :p

When I rang them yesterday the guy didn't know anything about the screens but he did say if they were EOL it would say on his system, which it didn't. Two year old model maybe but I'd rather they were recently made and arn't stock that have been sitting in a warehouse or shipping container for two years.

Hi there

Samsung taking their sweet time, as the stock needs approval right from the top due to the huge loss of money on this deal. It should get final sign off end of this week and be with us end of next week.

Sorry for delay guys, just deals like this cost the manufacturers a lot of money to get authorised due to the losses being made and the regular sales managers can't approve the shipping.

Thank you for the update Gibbo. That's good news that they are coming. Is the reason for the price because they are EOL? Don't get me wrong I like the price :) but I'm just curious the reason for selling them at the price if they are costing the manufacturers lots of money? I'm being nosey ;)

Yes EOL, Samsung built to many, did not sell enough and all of a sudden a 1440P high-end panel no longer sells for £600 so they have to do crazy deal, the catch is I have to take all the remaining stock.

But at £299 they are flying out, it is just like £200 below the price they are supposed to sell them at. :D

It is tempting, but the fact it's a 2-year old monitor that has be a bit concerned. The reviews are average also. Given the next 2560x1440 monitor OCUK sells is the Acer K272HUL at £320, which will be a newer model and panel... I'm still leaning more towards a 29" 21:9 myself. Just more of a 'wow' factor, albeit with a slight hit on the vertical resolution.
