Well My issue's with my internet dropping (packet errors) & random sync probs continue, 02 have been very helpfull running tests but sadly I think its come maybe requiring a new line.

When BT install a new line do they take it from the pole to the green box then to the house?

has anyone had any issues with new lines like are they better? basically I had a great connection with BT till last year & they messed in the green box when connecting BT vision & my line became unstable then. I moved over to adsl24 after that on a 2mb fixed & it was perfect but now on 02 the line is behaving the same as it did last may which has led me to believe a fault. I've replaced the internal wiring, tried a filtered faceplate, replaced all inline filters, used several routers, had 2 lift & shifts at the exchange & finally been in the test socket.

I'm getting a slightly higher sync in the test socket & was asked to leave my router connected in the test socket by O2 tech support whilst they ran a 24hr quality test, test came back with background noise. This noise was not a constant noise but a variable one which they said could be causing this issue & sync drops & packet loss.

Really would a new line fix all these issues? dont care if I dont get a full speed just want a stable line.

any advice is good :D

It's highly likely BT will just utilise a second pair which is likely to already be in the cable running to your home (they use 4 core most of the time) and this will be hooked up to a point in the cab box.

So 'new line' is not a new line at all, it really won't make any difference for you (unless as a side effect they fix some dodgy wiring in the cab box - which sounds like there could be from what you've said)

Obviously the fault is with the overall quality of your line. Bt must provide a line suitable for voice traffic. Complain that it is noisy for voice and get someone to check out the "Green Box" - assume you mean the Box in the street .
Is that 13321 that you are connected at? If so you may have to downgrade to 8 for a more stable line. It is possible to hit lucky with a new line bit like doing the lottery.
I have to keep my line connected at around 7000 for it not to drop once during the "Bad" hours of the night!
It only needs one careless cowboy in amongst the wiring to completely ruins some ones connection- and Bt's wiring is already amongst the worse in Europe

its intermittent as sometimes its 14000+ & its stable, with lots of factors and possibly some dodgy wiring outside O2 will not let me push for a new line despite myself paying for it so I'm just gonna wait till bt do the 21cn in my area and hopefully this will fix it

well been up & down with a lift & shift & rising my snr to no affect so BT must have killed my line last year when they were at the cab box, used to sync at over 7900 then but a voice fault put me at just over 5000 & thats stayed there. may just get outta my o2 deal & go back to a fixed 2mb at adsl24 as its an issue with gaming & packet errors unless U think a new line; ie from the pole will work. (current line lengh is 1800mtrs from the exhchange aswell).

it could be a number of things, just changing the wire from your distribution point (pole etc) wont make any difference. If the cable going back hundreds of meters to the green cabs has aluminum in it, multiple joints etc, then your going to have a high line loss and low SNR. Then there's the wire from the cab back to the exchange to take into consideration!

Well I bit the bullet & I'm getting a new line installed & requested a range of things which they said yes to! :

a new line card with temp number
new line from the pole to the
replace the internal box & wiring to the green box

this should hopefully do the trick & give my my correct line speed that is achievable on the line 18mb :D (which is attained at my mother house 3 doors away)

I used to have this issue when something was up with a junction box causing it to fill up with water. Used to affect our voice as well, BT had it all sorted in a couple of days.

well it gets even better so gonna ring bt & say they can do the new line for nothing!!!!! as this is what goes to my house

the wires sticking out of that nice box supplies 4 flats, the cables that is hagingout & looking not too well is mine which must be part of this problem

updated with line stats after 4hrs use on the o2 box opposed to my netgear dg834gt
