Insurance

Well unless your buying a brand new 1.25 zetec go TPFT, can get a nice enough 1.25 for 1500 max, so its not worth the fully comp cover.

Try Admiral aswell, and check the difference with pass plus.

Well thing is my mother wants me to go Full comp, Also how about putting a parent on insurance is that a good idea?

Saved me a fortune by putting my mother on mine, something silly like £400 difference!

Well thats cool I'll do that I took my mum off and it knocked 300 off my online insurance on tesco :S, Also guys are all Zetecs 16V?

thats ridiculous (2 grand quote)

u not got any parents to go under? if so, do that!
just got quoted 600 quid for a 1.8 mondeo 1998 S plate at 17. with my dad main driver and me 2nd + it was third party, fire and theft.
try asda insurance and see the quote they give you from CIS :)

That's illegal

By all means add your parents as second drivers but it is illegal and insurance fraud to insure under your parents name with you as a second driver when you're the main driver of the car

No, it's illegal and fraudulent to lie when obtaining insurance.

In order to get a quote with you as a named driver and your Dad as the policyholder, it almost always means you have to lie. However, there are a few insurers who will be happy with this method, provided you explain what you are doing.

It's not quite as simple as 'OMG LOLZ? HUH!!!!! *** NAMED DRIVOR IS *** FRAUDZZZZ'.

Did you mean to quote me?

I said to have yourself as the policy holder and as the main driver

My parents are second named drivers - this is OK. If the parents are quoted as the main driver then what you said would be correct

When I wrote my Mum's car off they investigated - asked around at college, asked people at Mum's work, etc to make sure that she was the main driver. As we have two cars it's OK - if we then had three cars (one for me) then it would be easier for them to prove that your parents are not the main drivers

As a lot of people do it they are hot at detecting it

Worst case is that they declare the policy to be invalid and then the police prosecute you for driving without insurance

Well yeah I have my mum to go under she has 17 years no claims, I keep getting high quotes online which is a shame admiral gave me a 1539.87 quote on a 98 Zetec Since I couldn't choose the year I wanted which was 1996. That was Third party fire and theft with 10 months Accelerator even with the pass plus I got the same results which is weird.

Put yourself as the main driver and the policy holder

Add your Mum as a second named driver. This is what I plan to do with my new car and it's perfectly legal

Going under her name isn't if you are to be the main driver of the car

I wouldn't go under my mums as a named driver mate :D I wanna get my self no claims bonuses I noticed how much the insurance changed once I put it from 87 to 86 on tesco I might just wait till friday when I'm 19 and check on Admiral since that gave me a lower quote then tesco. My mum, was saying that a Ghia will give me a high insurance then a Zetec anyone think It would be that much higher?

That's the way to do it - my insurance went from £1500 to £900 in a year with 1 year NCB! (Was 19 for the first quote)

It could well be a group up - sometimes higher specced models cost more to insure. I don't think it would be much though.

What I do is to get some number plates off Autotrader and then to put those into the quote generators so it'll be for that exact make, model, spec etc!

Not guilty, had my own policy since I was 17, and got a full no claims to show for it :) Very grateful for that as it means my high number of points don't make fast cars uninsurable like they should.

I'd echo the comments given - only buy a 1.3 Fiesta as a "last resort" emergency/banger transport - if you are picking and choosing the 1.25 is a much more sensible choice.

Ditto, so not everyone does it.

On the subject of NCB halving insurance quotes, my first year of insurance cost £1550, second year it went down to £750

probably be flamed for this, but personally dont think the 1.3 fiesta is a bad little starter car. my daughter started with one and we sold many over the years. cheap to run ,cheap for spares and insurance. ok they are never going to set the world alight with performance, but can be pushed if you do need to get a move on. I know the spec on the zetec is better (1.25) but sometimes people just need a first car to get from a to b. by the way when my daughter passed her test the difference between the 1.3 encore and the 1.25 zetec was about £350 on insurance. (we had both at the time). :)

I find it really bizarre when people use this sort of reasoning to say its good. Yes, what you say is true but it's also equally true of the 1.25, so... just get the 1.25 instead.

I know the spec on the zetec is better (1.25) but sometimes people just need a first car to get from a to b.

So why not get from A to B in the better of the two cars - the 1.25 is also more economical on fuel :)
