insurgency mod

I can see CSS falling to the way side for a bit with this, however after spending an hour trying to capture objectives, the server will crash.

Some server only seem to last for a matter of minutes?

If you afk or sit and camp, that tends to start to cause connection problems I have noticed.

i think there might be some server crashing exploits that some noobs are doing :(

played on about 3 diff servers last night, all crashed

For this mod to survive in the long run i think they need to cut back on realism so the average joe can pick it up easily and play the game.

You have to remember that this is an unpatched first release beta..

I don't think they do. Can you count up the number 4? How about A-D?

How hard is it to go from Alpha - Bravo - Charlie etc etc? Not really.

If you want CS, go play CS.

I don't think its increadibly hard. The INS team is easier win at the moment, as they don't have to follow orders to win and the AK is slightly too powerful. However, once players start to actually listen to Commanders, I think the USMC teams will really come through strong.

Yes you see n00b people running off, but they just don't understand how to use the compass, following orders etc.. they are just trying to get into the action. Give it a couple of more weeks and people will have a good idea what they are doing.

Hopefully it will gather a core following, normally you get a more "mature" type of player with this type of game so idjits should be kept to a minimum. It's when games get changed too much to attract more players that they lose their edge and just become one more run of the mill game, just look at what happened to CS and DoD....

I'm going to try and get a few of the old hands together for this, might be able to get some sort of loose clan together for playing some good teamwork. Ye gads, it's almost made me get back into gaming in a semi serious way?!!! ;) :p

just downloaded this, all ive gotta do is install steam right? do i need CSS installed? as i cant be bothered installing it.. the updates take hours lol.

Can't say i like this too much, it LOOKS good but the feel is classic red orchestra "clunky" feel. Why does it appear that 1 hit kills you every time regardless of where you get hit? Also why does it feel and look like you should be moving much faster than you are while sprinting? If you look at other teammates its like theyre attached to an anchor when theyre running as the motions aren't consistant with the speed imo.

Also, id love to know why anyoe with a negative opinion of this game on the official forums (and here to a degree) gets told to "go back to counterstrike"

The hit box in the game is larger, meaning you can get killed easier. Thats why you stick to a group. I have been hit and managed to keep going, only a couple of times though.

They kept the running a bit slow to try and show some realism, and would take away from the RV aspect of the game. Playing CSS seems very quick now! :p

RO has never ever been clunky even in it's steam released format. It is just a different slower paced game. Movement is fine and spot on in insurgency, the sprint takes you across streets pretty quickly but not to the point that it is all you need, smoke and cover fire is what this game is trying to promote and it needs to be used rather than running anround in a gung ho fashion (not that that stops me and it's the main reason I die, but that's because I am too impatient!). The 1 shot 1 kill no matter where it hits you is the direction they have taken to make it more "realistic", getting winged in the leg by an AK47 doesn't mean you can still stand and return fire for a kill, you would go down, be out of action and if in the open be dead. Yes I know it's a game not real life and all that, but it is an uncompromising game in what it provides. Most of the "negative opinions" I have seen are people who just don't seem to "get" the game, and there's only so many of those you can take surely? I mean how many posts can you take where people keep asking for a crosshair, faster movement, death messages and a map showing everyones location, when not having these things is exactly what the mod is about?

I'm not having a go at you Gerard if it comes across that way, I've been up since 7am yesterday and I think the Holsten Pils is taking hold a bit to quick! However what I say stands, I just hope it doesn't come across as an attack on you and your opinion, it's just mine in response :)

edit: Oh and by the way, I pretty much hated this for the first hour I played it (I charge around too much when on my own) but once I got into some good teamwork\squads it started to come into its own. Oh and finding a nice camping spot with the Insurgents support gun on the one map did help :D

I would say it's completely the opposite in fact.
If you don't proactively push forward with your squad then you get pinned down and that's it, game over.

I play with a small group of guys and we work as a squadron very effectively. We've got a designated point man, support for covering fire and then riflemen for the close quarters enagements.
We use actual military tactics (two of the guys served in Fallujah in 2003 and 2004) and do pretty well for it because we cover each other, only advance under supressing fire or smoke, keep low in the open and move between cover where we can.

It's such a rewarding game if played correctly and the odd bugs are just a tiny fly in the ointment at the moment and are soon going to be fixed with the 1.0a patch.

I think people forget that this is the FIRST beta - remember CS in the beta stages where the m4 had a scope and the mp5 was deadly accurate and powerful?
I imagine people moaned at the bunnyhopping mp5ers who were just obliterating the opposition, but it soon got sorted :)

Not played this yet, downloading now whilst at work through remote desktop, very fast!
